BoG approves Draft lottery changes
Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Draft Lottery changes were voted in by the Board of Governors today. League still needs to confer with NHLPA before they become official
no word on what they may be

uhh ... I thought they weren't doing this. Or was it just that they weren't going to do it for 2015.

yeah the talk was they weren't going to do this until after 2015 as there already have been a few 1st round picks traded under the assumption of the old lottery rules

Everybody lies before the draft.

Whatever they do, I'll be happy on 2 conditions:
1) Oilers get screwed
2) Flames don't
Theoretically, we will probably finish in the 28-24th position next season, anything that skews the odds away from the 30th place is in our favour.
Realistically, being a Flames fan for life has led to me accepting the fact that we will probably get screwed.

I still think changing the percentages to be more equal is a stupid solution. Just put a max number of top three picks for a team over a given period.
How is this not being discussed?

I hope this doesn't screw over either of Buffalo or Calgary.

Apparently only one dissenting vote.
They really are no good.

Completely agree. The worst team should have the best odds to win the lotto by a good margin over the next worst team. But the league doesn't need to push the cyclical teams that rebuild, get better, compete for over a decade and then fall back. They need to punish the Oilers for sucking for extended periods, celebrating the sucking and taking away other team's chances to market new topend talent.
2 top 3 picks in any 5 year span.

It is all fairly vague as provided by LeBrun. Kind of wondering if it isn't more along the lines of a precursor to NHL Expansion. Nothing right away but likely to happen soon. Thus if expansion occurs then they have the rules in place, but didn't want to say so as that's a much bigger story that they aren't ready for yet.

Nick Cotsonika @cotsonika
Bettman said there is a proposal to change draft lottery but wouldn't give details. Need to talk to PA first.

Because that does not address what Colorado did to tank their way to MacKinnon.

Colorado won MacKinnon with an 18% chance slot. So this wouldn't really resolve it either.

I believe in the Jays.

Whatever it is I hope it doesn't take effect until the 2016 Draft. And I hope that it isn't just flattening out the lotto odds.

They need to do a lottery for more than just the top pick. I say top 3 picks should do the trick
Next year, you just need to tank and finish last in the league. That way you will have a 100% chance of picking either McDavid or Eichel.

To me its always been the lag time between an elite player making an impact and the draft so the team gets to load up while there bad.
My rule would be the sum of consecutive draft picks canont be less than than 6. 1 and 5, 2 and 4, 3 and 3. Minor changes to the odds doesn't really help.
