What's sad is that if you go to China and try searching for this image, you won't find a single thing. Not in the literature nor the internet. Even most young Chinese people have no idea what this is and it's significance. F*** politics.

Tankman is an iconic image, and I would bet that he was arrested and shot.

There were other Iconic images from that day that showed the ruthlessness of China's security apparatus that continues today.

NSFW!

I remember one image of an armored personal carrier calmly running people over that night.

Gotta hand it to the Chinese government. They're good at what they do.

Reports have Tank Man being a 19 year old student.

Think about that for a moment. 100 years from now when we are all gone, history will have this image as one of the defining moments of our generation. A 19 year old kid. So proud yet sad at the same time because it does sound like he was executed shortly after.

a friend of mine had a book about this whole event that was written from the chinese perspective, surprisingly, the western journalists made a lot of reporting mistakes.

No excusing China at all, because it's BS what they do ... but go to Japan and read their schoolbooks about about WW2. A lot more than a square of protesters has been whitewashed out of those.

Yeah, I was just there and couldn't find any information on it in China. It never happened. We didn't bring it up with the tour guide, but she sure didn't mention anything about it either.

Happend a few months before I was born but that image has always fascinated me.

I read some really great book about this event by a CBC journalist when I was in Junior High. It was a little much for a kid to read but I still finished it all. Crazy.

I'll rephase my question your honor

What were examples of mistakes that the western media made according to this book? I want to see how outlandish they are.
