Trudeau draws the line for the Liberals on "pro-choice"
http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2...deau_says.html
While I think there will be some crusty types that will chastise him for the "my way or the highway" approach, I believe you have to draw a line on the political spectrum for party solidarity. Otherwise divisive issues like abortion create cracks in the party base.
While not necessarily a Liberal supporter, I am firmly pro-choice and I commend the line in the sand approach.

Abortion is an issue in Canadian politics? What decade is it again?
What is their stance on universal suffrage?

Yep, I'm totally in favour of this. Trudeau has shown a bit of inexperience so far but he's also made some shrewd moves to bring the party in line with his vision, and he's clearly targeting a certain demographic of voters.

The abortion debate is dead, Harper has pretty much killed it within his own party, so Trudeau is trying to do the whole booga booga hidden agenda scary Harper blah blah blah stuff.
Its more meaningless fluff and stuff from Trudeau.
But its clear that at first he promised democratic nominations which was a lie, and now all MP's have to fall in line on his policies that he's not exactly open to public debate within his party so he's exactly like Harper, who snuffed the abortion debate and the anti gay marriage debate within his own party.

Anyways, my views on the pretty empty headed pony are well known here, so no point in me rehashing the subject.

And a couple backbenchers won't overrule the rest of the Conservative caucus that views it as a dead issue. But congratulations on allowing Trudeau to lead you by the nose into repeating the "Conservatives are scary" rehetoric that bombed like hell the last few elections.

Bombed like hell the last few elections? I'm not sure that is how I would characterize two minority governments and one election where the Conservatives split the left and won a majority with 37% of the popular vote.
In any event, I was merely pointing out that "the abortion debate within the CPC is dead" might be overstating things.
Lastly, I don't need Trudeau to "lead me by the nose into repeating the 'Conservatives are scary' rhetoric". I can come to that conclusion, based a review of the evidence over the past decade, and quite reasonably come to that conclusion on my own.

It's an interesting tactic and definitely more honest. Dunno if it really helps or makes much of a difference though. May just hurt him, though I don't think it will either. It's not the huge hot button topic it is down south.

Well of course. It's not gay if you're pushin.
Wish he'd just go back to public strip teasing for the soccer moms, and admiring China's basic dictatorship. Was much more fun than watching him fumble for words to describe a middle class that he's never known.
The Liberal Party; it's the new socialism!

Shouldn't this excite you? If it's still an issue then maybe the debate will split the red and blue tories apart and the Liberals can have their turn in power again. It's been 10 years so it's about time we pendulum back for a decade...

I do find it interesting though that Trudeau can admit to smoking marijuana, given to him from friends (drug dealers) at a party, and that's cool, but Rob Ford doing illegal drugs is a stain on Canada's squeaky clean reputation.
Imagine the horror if Harper admitted to rippin a fat one. And I'm not talking about Mike Duffy.

I don't see it as that as all. I think it's more drawing a proverbial line in the socio-politcal stand and clearly emphasizing where he thinks the Liberals should stand. I think this is likely a move aimed to draw voters away from the NDP more than it is from the Conservatives.
