Default Do you look your age?

The recent balding and greying thread got me thinking about how old you look.
I had weekend away which was a sort of reunion with old friends. The group ranges from late thirties to early forties. Looking at a group picture its hard to believe everyone is within a 5 year age range. Some guys look 30 and other guys look like they could be the dads of the younger looking guys.

Id say balding or greying hair is one of the lesser things that make you look old. Some bugger things:
-bad hair with whatever hair you have can age you
-weight gain can add 10 years. Being fit and trim with a flat stomach can take 10 years off. Good posture helps as well to keep you from looking like youre gonna need a cane soon
-outdated clothing. Some guys look like they got hand me downs from their dads
-yellow teeth
-bad bags under the eyes

Anyone ever get mistaken for being in a way different age group? Getting IDed for booze at 40? Getting asked if youre eligible for a seniors discount at 40?

I still get ID'd and I'm 30. I probably look under 18 though lol. I blame being Asian.

One other item is eye glasses that. There that certain old person frame that can add decades to your look. Or cool frames can make you look younger. Theres a flip side to each of the things above that can make you look younger versus older.

If I'm wearing a toque, I look 23-24.

If I'm not, I look 35+

Being bald is annoying.

i regularly get mistaken for early 30s and i'm 43

i wish my body would recover after hockey like it did when i was in my early 30s! ha!

the big thing to remember is you're only young once, but you can be immature forever!

I always think I look younger but people usually guess my age pretty close. Very disheartening.

Every girl on POF is 39. What a coincidence.

If I have gel in my hair I look about my age.

If I don't have gel in my hair I look like I am 15 according to the GF's dad.

I thought that only 15 year olds put gel in their hair?

I got mistaken for 35 when I was 26. Usually people guess within a couple years of my age

7 years ago, prior to children, I was late 20's and ID'd constantly.
I was always told I looked younger than I was.
Thanks to this depressing thread for reminding me that I never hear those words anymore...

There is a difference in spiking your hair and making your self look presentable.

True, but only one of those can be done with hair gel.

Spiking your hair can look very becoming on the right 43 year old man.

I've always looked super young, people were still asking me what grade I was in a few years after university.

3/10 times I go to a liquor store, I get ID'd. I don't know whether to be happy or sad (My wife usually gets happy when this happens though but on occasion it's a chore). They should have stopped IDing me over a decade ago. However, having the wife with me when buying booze sometimes is the reason we both get ID'd. I think she snapped at the clerk once saying something like, "We both have wedding rings on. Do I seriously look like I'm below the age of 18?" While digging into her purse.

I've always thought a smart person determines 18 years old via the credit card used, wedding ring and the type (not quality) clothing that is worn. Sometime even by the conversation. If I walked into a store looking at $100 bottles of scotch and ask tasting notes from the clerk, he better not be IDing me. If I beeline grab a $25 bottle of whatever and beeline to the till... maybe?

14 year olds aren't dressing up in nice business looking clothes and borrowing a wedding ring to buy booze at 7:30. Just old married guys grabbing liquid relaxation after work.

You can't as easily tell by cars, nor brands of clothing, or accessories IMO. Rich parents can offer kids the means to acquire those high end brands. On the other side of the spectrum also see 40+ year old ladies in forever 21 buying stuff for themselves or the 50 year old father and 15 year old son wearing matching Tommy Hilfiger polos. Hell, even facial hair doesn't work. Some 16 year olds boys look like they're 36 these days.

When I worked at a liquor store, one thing I was amazed at was women in their 30's getting angry when I would ask for ID. I am technically paying them a compliment saying I think they look under 25 and should be carded, but most of the time they'd get pissed off they had to show their ID. That was always odd to me.

Pretty much this. I am 29, with a hat on I look my age, without one I look 39.

I don't really mind. I'm in a business where age and perceived experience are pretty key so I'm fine with people thinking I am older.
