I don't think there is any reason to believe that these new phones won't have aggressive off-contract pricing. Everything Google has done in this space has been very competitively priced off contract including Nexus and the Moto X. Anything about price is just the writer's baseless speculation.

The OnePlus one looks like good phone to take the Nexus' price point spot if the new Silver phones are more expensive.
