Default Former ref Paul Stewart slams Burrows

Blog here (hockeybuzz)

Quote:
Burrows is one of the game's most disliked players for good reason. He is a sneaky opportunist. Rather than playing a tough-but-clean physical game, he actively seeks out vulnerable opposing players and accelerates into the hit when he knows they are vulnerable. That is always followed by some weak post-game excuse and shifting of blame.
Always nice to read one of the biggest on-ice losers in the league get ripped on.

I was hoping he'd made it through the entire season without scoring a single goal.

By "slam" do you mean "lightly touched on Burrows and Burrows jumped headfirst into the boards and cried"?

Refreshingly candid view and it's no surprise that the officials are well aware of the Canucks players and antics. Great part is that things are coming around now and Burrows game is in the dumpster and so are the Canucks. Couldn't happen to a better group of people. The Vancouver Canucks truly are getting payback for their sins and as a Flames fan I take great delight in their melt down.

I like Paul Stewart, its rare that you see a psychotic goon transition so well into a on ice official role.

If anyone truly understands the game its him.

Burrows is a cheap opportunist looking for any chance to hurt people when they're vulnerable? What gave it away, the biting and hair-pulling?

Man I'm surprised the Rangers were passive. If he did something like that to Brodie, the entire team would get in on it.

Burrows would probably cower away from McGrattan and do the scumbag thing of going after Monahan, who then proceeds to beat the crap out of Burrows.

To his credit Vignault was seen actively making sure that Carcillo didnt get onto the ice. Carcillo wanted to get out there and take his head off, so Alain may have saved Burrows' life on that one.

It's so satisfying that the Canucks are so well known for their poor character. Things like this from a former ref about burrows.... and the mentioning of kesler's name as an example during the discussions last year of posting pictures in dressing rooms of repeat offenders of diving. They really are that much of a disgust to the league.

Well said. The hockey gods are real, and the nucks will have a slow and painful rebuild aka the oilers.

There's a pretty romantic story out there on how Burrows and Vignault are kindered spirits......

Kind of what I was thinking. Former coach protecting old players and not letting his current team handle it. Not sure if I like that if I'm playing for the coach.

Or, current coach protecting his current player from a 10-game suspension by leaving the bench to start a fight.

I think more accurately, Vigneault didn't want his current player to go do something stupid that might have precipitated a brawl and potential suspensions while his team is battling for playoff position.

Too be honest, hoping for a brain injury to someone and willing to do it I'm left wondering if you two are any better people than Burrows.

Mike Richards, Dustin Brown, Ryan Kesler and Shane Doan say Hi!
