Have the Flames found their new number one goalie?
Karri Ramo - 11-10-4 , .907, 2.70, 1 SO
Reto Berra - 6-14-2, .893, 3.17, 0 SO
I honestly feel it's not even close. Even if Hartley won't come out and directly say it, Ramo's numbers and play as of late has earned him that number one spot. I think we all know it took a little bit for Ramo to adjust to the NHL level but he has been terrific over the last 10 or so games.
With regards to Berra... I don't even think Berra should be the backup of this team. I honestly feel Ortio deserves a call up and a chance to show what he can do at the NHL level, especially after his terrific play down in the AHL. Ortio's numbers this season. 17-5-0, .925, 2.22, 1 SO
So CP have we found our number one goalie until Jon Gillies or Joni Ortio are hopefully ready to take the reins?! What do you think?

For the rest of this year, absolutely. Save Ortio for a while, no point in calling up a goalie yet. Give Berra a contract to keep developing, maybe in Abby, but Ramo is clearly our #1 right now.

Give Berra time he is extremely raw....but Ramo at times does remind me of a certain fin
In some of his movements and demeanor...

I think Berra has huge potential, but he has to get his head screwed on straight and stop playing this like he only has to stop the first shot. He is very good at that and when he can focus on just the shooter. Might make sense why he is so good in the shootout.
At least once per game he loses his net. I'm willing to give him time as I'm ok with this being a rebuild.
For now though, Ramo is really starting to seize the opportunity.

Ramo is so awesome, but he's a bit of a snowplow. Guy spends more time making snow angels than anyone since Hasek.
He's definitely better than Berra.

Ramo has earned the #1 spot. Way better than Berra.
And they should keep Ortio in Abbotsford for at least one full season, no need to rush.

Stop gap goalie - really doesn't matter who tends net in the next 2-3 years. You just need someone that the team likes playing in front of and feels generally confident with. I think Ramo can be that. At some point the organization will assess in the coming years if Gillies has starter potential or if they need to go out and get one.
I think if one is encouraged by anything it is that he is improving as the season goes on.
But probably not a guy you are going to go far with - which is OK for now.

I'd like to see Berra play the rest of the season down in Abby. He still hasn't adjusted to the speed of the NHL and seems to be over moving from side to side.

Has Berra even won a game in regulation yet this season?
I don't even recall one game.

Berra reminds me of the goalies in NHL 94 where you'd smash into one and they'd go sliding out of the net rotating as they went and ended up 10 feet away and backwards.
He's a more of a heart pounding adventure than an Indiana Jones movie.

I agree if they are for sure going to sign him for another season. If they are still deciding whether or not to sign him then he needs to start 5-10 more games. I still think he has potential but he needs some serious work with the coaches to improve his game. I'd like to see him signed for another year, send him down and call up MacDonald to back up for the rest of the games. Don't think Gillies or Ortio are anywhere near ready yet.

Last season in Europe Ortio wasn't far from Rämö's level, although it's difficult to compare players in different leagues. Ortio is easily more talented, but who knows if he has the mental strength to be an NHL goalie.
I don't think he's necessarily behind the older goalies in the organisation. Having said that, no reason to rush him. I also don't want Berra to take away his AHL starts.

.907 is not bad for a goalie playing in front of this team. Looking like the starter for the time being, if the other option is Berra.
Keep Ortio on the Heat for a while. What's the rush? See what we have in the current tandem for a bit. Gillies should spend a couple years down there too IMO.

I think Ramo's earned it for the rest of this year. I think I'd rather have him do it again next year with Ortio before committing anything more.

Ramo is clearly the better goalies and the team seems to be more confident when he's playing
