Default Using a VPN with mlb.tv

I'm contemplating signing up for MLB.tv this year but only if I can find a way to get the Jays games. After a little googling it appears that 2 years ago using a VPN worked like a charm, but last year MLB cracked down on those trying to.

Did anyone do this last season and how were your results?

I have both mlb tv and center ice, can't understand why sportsnet blacks out the Jays games but I can watch Flames games on CI with no blackout.

I use MLB.tv with unblock-us works just fine. I can watch the Rays play the Jays while I'm at home on the Ipad while the wife watches what ever junk she wants on the TV

I didn't use or do anything and got the Jays games on MLB.TV last year, but the year before I could only see them on cable. Until last year I used to get post-season or whatever they blacked out on mlb.tv as well, not sure why, but no black out for me. Last year though I couldn't. I don't know how or why it works, just seems completely random.

ZenMate has an extension for Chrome that works really great.

Don't you need to have a US Credit Card to watch MLB.TV and see the Jays?

Nope, at least that's not been my experience. They just seem concerned with location-based blackouts (but that may not even be the case).

On my VPN if I connect to a Las Vegas proxy, CI doesn't work. If I connect to Seattle, it does.

How do you pay for it then? Isn't it like $100 bucks a season or something? This work on Apple TV?

I've paid for it directly through mlb.com. I think it runs around $130 a season, but you can also pay monthly.

edit: And to be clear, I'm saying that you can buy mlb.tv with a Canadian credit card, but that in my experience, they've used location-based data to blackout games. Jays games are (supposed) to be blacked out anywhere in Canada.

Yeah, that's what I thought.

So to get back to the OP's original question, as a Calgarian who wants to watch the Jays on mlb.tv, how do you do it?

Or, like I did - element of chance for sure - you pay for it and you watch the Jays games on mlb.tv . Not meaning it in a bad, sarcastic or witty way by any means; but it looks like a couple of us in this thread at least have had no problem watching them as a paying customer on mlb.tv. As I mentioned, I pay each year and last year had no problem watching them whatsoever (live), and I live in stinky Edmonton .

Really strange as Canada should be blacked out for Jays games. In fact, Paul Beaston was just on Sportsnet talking about how that's a huge issue for them and day games.

I guess I can give it a whirl. Would just suck to drop $130 for nothing.

So all of Canada is considered Blue Jays territory? That's kind of crazy, as I can't imagine people from Vancouver just hop over to catch a game in Toronto very often.

That's my understanding, and why it's kind of stupid.

I've configured my Apple TV to show that I'm American... If I use the MLB app, that should work, no?

Television territory and blackouts have nothing to do with people going to the games. Basically, Sportsnet pays for the exclusive rights to broadcast games in Canada, and doesn't want major league baseball competing with them by selling broadcasts of the games directly to their territory.
