Default Family Day: What is open/closed?

For the past 4 years, I have either been working away from civilization, or in another province. Forgive me, but what is open on family day? I am pretty sure Government offices, Libraries, etc. are closed. What about everything else?

Most of Calgary runs like a normal Sunday. There may be the odd exception, but that is a general rule.

Wow did that throw me off. We were out there last week and they were advertising family day ski deals a week early. I had no idea they were offset from the rest of western Canada.

Because you people always get ******* off when 'red plates' show up and use things like ski hills and hiking trails and golf courses and speed on your roads.

With offsetting holidays locals can enjoy the area without being surrounded by what paid for most of the amenities tourists.

Semi-green text...

Since it's not a real holiday, is anything closed?

I like to celebrate by recreating the only reason Family Day even exists in the first place, and doing something that will horribly embarrass my parents even though I am a grown adult.

Here in Ottawa, it is the weirdest day.

Virtually EVERYONE has the day off. Malls are closed. Grocery stores are closed. Even some restaurants are closed.

But we federal government employees will be working.

It is the busiest day of the year for the cafeteria. Nowhere else in the area to buy your lunch. Especially today. I don't think anyone is up for a long walk in this -27C weather.

I found that out the hard way when I drove down there this morning. Their website said they were open so I was a little pissed.
