Default Preds GM David Poile has no sight in right eye

Ouch:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — David Poile may not see again out of his right eye after taking a puck to the face. That's not stopping the general manager of the U.S. hockey team and the Nashville Predators as he returns to work.

Feel like that would hamper your scouting abilities no?

In fact, that opinion is rather shortsighted.

That's really terrible news, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

The only benefit I could see is he can now wear one of those really cool 70's supervillain leather eye patches and grow a pencil mustache

From the presser he seems to be taking it fairly well, so that's a good thing at least

You would adapt eventually. I have extremely poor vision in one eye and have no issues.

It is likely too early to tell really. You usually have to wait 3-6 months to determine a long term prognosis for sight. The eyes have a remarkable ability to recover. There is likely lots of internal swelling right now and you have to wait for that to subside before you can make a diagnosis.

Bad things happen to good people every day, its just a shame it is his eye sight but should be thankful that he can still see the people that he cares for unlike those out there that loose their eye sight all together.

I took a snap shot to the eye a few years ago and came away very lucky with only a scar and a terrible bone bruise. My friend, the year after, took what was basically a 1 handed lob shot and lost sight in his left eye. His brother, in the same year, got a stick under his visor and lost sight in his right eye.

People chirp me, but there's no reason not to wear a bird cage when you're playing rec hockey. If you're not getting paid to play hockey, it's just not worth it to just rock a visor

I have no issue with beer leaguers who wear cages, but if you do, you should have to be banned from any sort of typical 'beer league' minor physical contact, cannot so much as speak to players on the opposing teams without a penalty, and are automatically ejected for any high sticks or for shoving of any other player no matter how minor the penalties are.

Way too many beer leaguers with hero complexes when they wear a cage.

So all those that wear a cage should just accept all the bs cheap shots and elbows from all the visor wearing REC hockey players because they are clearly tougher than a rec player wearing a cage. Their team mates shouldn't expect them to back them up either when scrums happen.
