always get auto insurance!
I learned a lesson this week and thought I post this as a reminder to anyone else who's into old cars. I don't want anyone else to make the same mistake!
3 weeks ago I bought a 77 corvette that needed work to restore it, I didn't get around to getting insurance right away, it needed work and couldn't really afford it quite yet.
then this happened.........

F man.... that's brutal.
Talk to your adjuster and see if you can claim it on your home contents insurance. You just might be able to. Especially since I am guessing you didn't pay a huge wad for it. I know my contents covers up to 100k. In fact I know of a case where a guy lost a collector Porsche in the same scenario, and he successfully claimed it as contents, as it was mid-restoration, and in pieces. As long as the car isn't roadworthy, I believe you will have a chance.

Amazing, so what was the source of the fire? Gas lines in the vehicle, a product in the garage used in restoration?
Sad to see all the good work washed away.

That's really unfortunate, I would probably be in the same boat, skipping fire and theft on something I was fixing.

Yeah, most home insurance policies make a point to separate themselves from anything vehicle related. Some have coverage for parts and accessories, but it's a limited amount, usually used for 2nd set of tires being stored in the garage.

the fire burned the telephone poll and blew up the transformer, knocking out power to the block. firefighters opened fire hydrant too fast and blew the water main in 2 places, the entire block had no water for 4 days.

Sent you a PM. I'm not convinced what you've been told about your coverage is correct.

Yes the best approach is to commit insurance fraud.
