Question Inexpensive, Reliable Domain Registration and Web Hosting?

I'm creating my portfolio website for university, and I'm wondering what is the best inexpensive but reliable site for registering my domain and hosting my site. Any suggestions? Cost is a key consideration for me.

You don't need to host at the same place you register.

I use serversea for hosting and most of my Domains are registered at domainatcost.ca, just because they had a sale on ca names when I started. I have also used network solutions and go daddy to register at, it really doesn't matter.

Depending on the specifics of what you need (ie. what is in the portfolio, how you're going to be displaying it, etc.), your cheapest hosting option would be to get a free WordPress site from http://wordpress.com

Then register a domain from any of the registrars mentioned above, and point it to your WordPress.com site.

Unless you need any kind of support and then they downright suck.

Currently using Crocweb. Can't recommend Cirtex. Dreamhost was good for a while as long as it didn't involve email (which was problematic).

Domainsatcost.ca for the domain name. I'd recommend having the domain name somewhere different on the off chance that you get into some kind of conflict with the company and you want to move your site, then you don't have to depend on them. I've heard a few horror stories of people trying to get their own domains back under their own control (not many but doesn't hurt to have it separate).

I've had 5-6 different hosts the last decade, monkeywrenchhosting.com has been the best of the lot. Fast, I mean really fast I get blazing ftp speeds. Reliable and good support, and cheap.

Have previously used a few different ones, but most recently Charlottezweb - never had an ounce of issue with them.

As for domain registrations, namecheap.com is definitely one of the best that I've worked with.
