Good. He, Knight and Reinhart need to be the first recalls because we need to see if they can be NHL regulars next year.

Possibly because of this?

Brian McGrattan goes hard into the end boards. Been down on the ice for quite some time. #Flames

McGrattan helped off the ice by the trainers. We'll see if he returns. #Flames

Or Stempniak has a family emergency or something?

No update on McGrattan right now. Stempniak left practice for personal reasons, he'll be gone for a few days. #Flames

Or last do or die to decide to resign him?

Reason: Spelled Stempniak wrong

Whoa. Good for him.
I can name about four or five players who should probably have been recalled before him, but I'm happy for him regardless. Such a good person.

I like Hanowski but this one surprises me a little bit. Hasn't he been a frequent healthy scratch down in Abby??

How many right-handed shooters are we left with now?

Only two consecutive games after Trevor Gillies was signed.
He's played well since getting back into the lineup though.

with his contract expiring on July 1st, it's a good chance to give him a better look. the other guys all have at least another year on their deals so it might not be as important for Burke to get a feel for them immediately.

No, not a frequent scratch at all. He's played 48 of the Heat's 52 games and was a healthy scratch a couple games in early February to get Lane MacDermid into the lineup and watch from above to sort out his rookie slump.

I just hope this isn't like Chris Breen's last recall... It's all I ask.

Games don't start up for a week... could be as simple as needing a body in practice with injuries and guys missing time.

With Stempers gone, and McGrattan hurt, he might get get into the line up, but don't expect top-6 minutes or a chance to really evaluate him. :\

We don't play for a week, the guys on the FAN 960 were saying that Stempniak should be back by then.

Hanowski's been getting more physical the last few games and he's getting rewarded. Reminds me of the situation Nystrom was in when Nystrom was going up and down.

Here's my thoughts on the recall at HeatHockeyHQ -> Flames recall Hanowski
Quote:
...Hanowski wouldn’t have been the first call up in mind if the Flames needed a body for battle, as there are 5 more deserving players (Reinhart, Granlund, Street, Jones, Knight in no particular order) waiting in the wings… but the move makes sense. Troy Ward is entering the most treacherous part of the season and he needs whatever stability management can offer him. Losing his starting goalie was tough enough, to lose Granlund or Reinhart might have been too much...
