Jan 5 - WJC Medal Games - Bronze: CAN vs RUS (7AM MT) & Gold: SWE vs FIN (11AM MT)
Canada vs Russia 7:00AM on TSN.

 Canadian Roster:
http://www.worldjunior2014.com/en/teams/canada/#list
2014 Draft Notables: Sam Reinhart, Aaron Ekblad
2015 Draft Notables: Connor McDavid
 Russian Roster:

2014 Draft Notables: Ivan Barbashev
We will see if Canada and/or Russia can summon the effort to play a decent bronze medal game. The Russians played very well against Sweden but still came up short. The Canadians didn't shoe much effort against the Finns.
Sweden vs Finland 11:00AM on TSN.

 Swedish Roster:
http://www.worldjunior2014.com/en/teams/sweden/#list
2014 Draft Notables: Jonas Johansson, Anton Karlsson, Lukas Wallmark
 Finnish Roster:
http://www.worldjunior2014.com/en/teams/finland/#list
2014 Draft Notables: Julius Honka
Sweden's Pettersson maybe suspended for leaving the penalty box to fight at the end of the game. IIHF will be having a meeting in about 3 hours time of this post to discuss it. Looks like the Russians involved in the scrum may have escaped supplementary discipline.

If Sweden's Pettersson isn't suspended it will be viewed as a huge bias being as it's in sweden and they're going for the gold and also compared to many of the other lame calls made.

I do love a good Canada-Russia final! Unfortunately it is only for Bronze, but Canada better come in and play with some strong work ethic, and play smartly. Better come home with a medal.

A bronze for this group would be a strong accomplishment, especially considering the bumpy road they've had. No need to hang your heads boys, go get it done!

Pettersson is suspended.
Quote:
The suspension was issued to Pettersson for leaving the penalty box to engage in an altercation with a Russian player at the end of the Sweden-Russia semi-final.
Following a scrum between the two teams after the end of the third period, Pettersson #6 and Russian player Andrei Mironov #22 exchanged punches with each other before being broken up by a linesman. Pettersson went under investigation due to the fact that he was not on the ice when the game finished. He was called for slashing with less than 30 seconds to go in the period, and left the penalty box at the conclusion of the game to get involved in the altercation.
The Disciplinary Panel determined that Pettersson instigated the altercation with Mironov by jumping him from behind. The Panel added that it was Pettersson’s responsibility at the conclusion of the game not to become involved with any opponent and that the altercation with Mironov was completely avoidable.
Based on these facts, the Panel has issued a one-game suspension to Pettersson, who will therefore miss the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship gold medal game against Finland.

Curious to see how Ekblad and S. Reinhart play this game because really i've seen nothing that strikes me as a first overall pick from either one of them.

Canada looks awful in their own zone.
2nd goal was buttersoft on Fucale.

Not surprised. If we couldn't beat Finland, we likely aren't beating Russia. Even if the styles are completely different. Canada did well to grind its way to the bronze medal game given the roster we sent and the mediocre performances from many of those that did go.

Predictable loss, and I don't agree with the commentary, they didn't deserve to win. Not with that effort level. I felt like a bunch just gave up as soon as they got down, and think a few of them tried too hard, while others didn't try nearly hard enough and they never really jelled or looked that threatening.

Actually played really well I thought, just couldn't capitalize on their chances.
First time in 33 years Canada has gone back to back without a medal at this tourney.
Hopefully we can keep the Gold at the Olympics.

The medal girls this tourney haven't really met Swedish expectations.
