Malkin Penalized for Jersey Tuck
Anyone know when this rule came in? Personally I find it quite ridiculous and cant help but think of Theo and how certain players have a "signature look".
The ref was a complete **** as he clearly waits all game for Malkins line to have a scoring chance before blowing the whistle.

Came in this year. And it is less a new rule, per se, but rather an enforcement of one that already existed (all equipment must be under the jersey/pads/socks). The actual penalty is new though. There is also little doubt that Malkin knew the rule too.

Terrible rule.
If a broadcaster can't identify Evgeni Freaking Malkin without seeing his jersey number he has no business broadcasting

Enjoyed it because I dislike Malkin.
But never heard of this rule. What about Ovechkin? So many players have a tuck, where did this come from?
Reminds me of the ten minute penalty for the McGrattan salute. Does this mean Jagr can't do it anymore?

Nobody does the tuck anymore.
Officially, it is an enforcement of the uniform rule that requires all protective padding to be underneath the jersey and pants. The party line is safety reasons. The conspiracy theory minded view it as a prelude to adding small advertising patches in that spot.

I seem to be the only one who likes this rule, I think the tuck looks silly, but that's just my opinion. I understand why there's so much hate for it though.

Now if only they would start handing out penalties for chewing on your mouth guard.

The ref did warn him about it earlier in the game and every player in the league has known that it's a new penalty for at least two months.
Remember when CCM used to sew their logo on the left side of Gretzky's jerseys because he tucked in the right side?

they started enforcing this for player recognition purposes because certain players have a back pad that would cover the majority of their number. This is not your old school Gretzky or Fleury jersey tuck.
Sure we all know who Ovechkin is, but if an unknown player does it, it becomes a pain in the ass. So they have to make it the same for everyone.

If the ref warned him first (as getback said) then I have no problem with this call and whether you think the rule is dumb or not stupid by Malkin to not fix it.

The tie down rule has been in a place for awhile. It usually just gets caught if the player fights, gets jersey'd and the tie down isn't ripped off

The tie down rule was a big player safety change in fights. Huge advantage if you have your shirt off and you grab the other guy's jersey, but he can't grab onto you.

How does one dislike Malkin?? He plays like a Russian Mario basically and got the Conn Smythe when they won the cup. Dude is awesome!

I've heard this is a precursor to get players used to the idea of non-tucked sweaters. And when the moment is right, every NHL player will proudly sport some tramp stamp advert for an online casino, and we can all reminisce about simpler times.

Does it help that I never liked Mario much? We used to call Gretzky a whiner, but he is nothing compared to Lemieux. I actually like Malkin better than Lemieux.
