Monohan; handle with care or franchise possibility?
So everyone loves them some monohan lately.
My father made a great point though to me, his hockey I being about 50-100x greater than mine.
The league has a history of pooping promising 19 year Olds out after Huge promising start and excreting 20 year Olds who just aren't the same.
He specifically used an example of a maple leafs defenseman. Think it was a defenceman. He's on the flyers now and has never been the same after the first season.
Anyhow... What say you?
Does monohan have the hallmarks of a guy you can build around or will tomorrow dictate his career?
It might be nice to see him play for team Canada. If worst came to worst.
Since you all have a better hockey IQ than me, what do you think?

Luke Schenn is too small a sample size, and especially since defensemen take longer to develop.
Who else is your fathers abundant sample size of successful 19 year old turned failing 20 year old?

Sounds like his example was Luke Schenn. I dont think thats a great comparative as we all know the NHL learning curve for defensemen is typically much longer than for forwards.
A lot fo young players have suffered from a sophomore slump after having a great rookie campaign. A lot of these same players have gone on to be top level talent and excellent hockey players.
I think a kid like Monahan, is an avid hockey learner, wants to get better, learn from the veterans and coaches, is going to be fine. He doesnt strike me as a petr Prucha or anything.

I was going to say there are several Monahan threads this could have gone in, but I guess this is the first Monohan thread. Seriously, it's not that hard of a name to spell.
Also, that's an improper use of a semicolon.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

One big advantage for Monahan is it's still a more or less "zero pressure" environment for him. We don't need him to keep scoring at his current pace, nor do we expect him to. We're okay with the odd mistake, even a costly one here or there if it comes to that. He's still learning.
Basically he'd stay here because he earned it. Not because the team expects him to lead the charge into the playoffs this season.

How can playing with 16 year olds and having less of a challenge every night help him.
He has been put in with the big boys and is doing very good at this level so far. He will learn more playing and practicing with the Flames rather than the OHL
I think if his junior team was a legit contender it woud make the decision much harder but the 67's are terrible so I don't see how sending him back there will do anything for him.
