Mike Rogers retiring, New Colour man for Maher
Dean Molberg@fan960boomer56s
Best of luck to Mike Rogers who has announced his retirement from our Calgary Flames broadcast. Great color guy, better person.
I wonder who will take over?

Seems like an odd time to retire would have thought he would have done so earlier in the year but best of luck to him.
I found him like many FAN employees to be a homer for the most part but the last year or two he did start to call things like they were and actually not just try and paint a rosy picture with all the loses.
He was good at what he did and will be interesting to see who replaces him. In some way with him already being there Rhett makes some sense but I don't think he would be a great fit at that job.

That sucks, I think he's the best guy in sports media within the city.

Wow that sucks big time. He's one of the best color men and was brutally honest and I loved it.

Thought Rhett was great as a player except when he started to deteriorate in his final couple seasons, but not a big fan of him post retirement and his history of throwing ex-teammates under the bus in the media.

I loved his honesty and penchant to tell it like it is. I hope they don't bring in a company man to paint a rosy picture on nights where the team is awful. The last thing this team needs in the rebuild is Oilers-type media appologists. Flames fans aren't stupid.

Ryan Pinder? He was calling the game with the Heat and I thought I heard he was now doing stuff with the FAN already. Wouldn't be a huge leap to see him doing the colour commentary for the Flames and get groomed up for a bigger role.

Not saying he couldn't develop into a good one but if Warrener was to be the guy he better start practicing right now.
That is based on his in game work with Sportsnet more than the morning show stuff.

You mean history of not sugarcoating things and letting fans know that players aren't perfect?

Anyone else think Loubardias would be great in a colour role? He could then step into the PBP role when Maher hangs em up?

It has to be considered a possibility at least in the color role as you hear his voice less.

I enjoyed Mike doing colour, I would have thought this would have been an ideal career that he would have done for many more years.

For the last several years, Rogers has been the best part of the fan's broadcast.
Really too bad I won't get to listen to him regularly. I hope he still appears periodically.

Mike replaced by Miika?
Might be some candidates here:

Maybe Crispy could be lured back to Calgary?

I could definitely see Pinder being in line to take over from Maher, but the colour guy is almost always a former player.
It also seems to be something former goalies are good at ... and Kipper is apparently going to live in Calgary during the season whether he plays or not ... OMG, Kipper's taking over!
"Yeah, was good game."

I'd bet for a man with a family, the travel demands might take their toll.

Couldn't live through the rebuild, clearly.
Will miss is honest and direct style.
