Default Fixing up a macbook pro

Has anyone had experience getting a new battery and upgrading the ram or gigs or whatever the hell you call that stuff?

I'm just wondering what it's going to cost and if it's worth it or not? It's from 2011 and the battery is pretty lousy and it's slowed down a good deal. Hoping to get it cleaned up and going another few years hopefully.

If it ain't worth it I'm just going to buy a new laptop. Thanks.

Yup!
I can help you. Please find out which exact model in the "about this mac" window.

Then I can refer you to the ram (memory), and possibly a solid state hard drive (SSD).

Budget for the ram about $50
Budget for the ssd about $125

I replaced the DVD drive on my 2009 MBP with an SSD (with an adapter) and sped it right up. Still use it occasionally. I used iFixit for the instructions on how to disassemble and reassemble. Take your time and it isn't bad.

Yup, replaced multiple harddrives, batteries and ram over the years.

Find your specific model and follow the give the IFixit guide a read before hand. I find their difficulty rating to be pretty accurate.

The age of your MBP will determine how difficult/easy an upgrade is. Apple's been using more and more glue/solder over the last 5 years, so some models are much less friendly than others.

I have a late 2011 MacBook Pro. The battery, RAM, and HDD are very accessable. Just keep track of the screws when taking off the back. They look the same size but a few are different.

THIS!!!

Use a ice cube tray to keep the separate or 2 sided tape to keep everything in order.
