Ehh, it Aaron Ward. I'll believe it when someone else, like Eklund, reports it.

Always liked Lydman. If he is retiring, wish him the best in the afterlife

Its funny, I actually didn't like Lydman when he was with the Flames. He was generally pretty good but it seemed like when he was on our blue line that he couldn't hold the puck in the offensive zone to save his life.

I would see the puck come back to the point, bounce over the defender's stick and then double-check the number before shaking my fist in the air saying "Lydman!".

IMO, he became a better player after he left the Flames.

I never got over how Sutter flipped him for a meagre pick after the 03/04 run.

He took our defensive depth and squandered it away.

I always like him better as Lidman. Once he became Ludman all bets were off.

Always liked him too. Good player. I agree his best years weren't for the Flames though.

It's the Finnish factor.

The Flames should retire #14, for Lydman.

That has always baffled me to no end, especially considering Commodore and Montador were both callups. Why Lydman got traded for beans is a mystery to me.

Was a very solid player in those first few after Calgary years for the Sabres, part of some memorable teams!

January 17,2014 should be Toni Lydman night at the dome.......just want to hear the crowd chant Lyman, Lyman, Lyman one more time

As an aside, it must be nice to be able to retire and leave $5,000,000 on the table.

I recall Sutter was upset and made some comment about Lydman not getting into game condition fast enough after an injury. He practically insinuated that Lydman was soaking it up a little and refusing to play through. Then he was traded for beans.

I still can't believe any of those mid-00's teams never even made it to the Finals. Especially '07 when Drury was Mr. Clutch. And another former Flame at that..

'06 was the year, just had garbage luck with injuries. By the Carolina series half our top 6 D and a couple of our top forwards were all out and they still dragged it to 7 games.

By '07 the leaders had pretty much checked out. It was still a fun regular season though. Rarely, particularly as small market fans, do we stop wondering if our team will win the night, and instead wonder how much we will be winning by.
