Default Athletic Goals for 2012

This isn't a new years resolution thread. I'm like some people in the resolution thread. I don't think they're a great idea - what's special about Jan 1 vs. April 13th or August 4th?

Anyway, for me January is always a good starting point because my HCSA gets reset so I can look at what I want to spend on sporting/athletics. Additionally a rebound from the wretchedness that is Christmas and New Years. No boozy events or gluttony until Easter!! So what a great time to get back into the groove!!

Would like to do

3 - 10km races. (Below the waste cancer run, run FASD, melissa's road race)
2 - Olympic Distance Tri's. (Canmore, Chapparel, Banff)
2 - Half Marathons (Police, Calgary?) ONE COMPLETE
1 - Half Ironman (Chinook, Sylvan, GWN, Calgary 70.3)
1 - Sprint Triathlon (MRU)

Ideally I'd like to drop from my current 205.5 (heaviest I've been in years, due to injuries) and get back to about 189 lbs. That'll be a good fast size for me.

Also would like to try to keep up with injury prevention stuff.

How about everyone else? You can follow the thread and post that you've completed something after!

1) Regain my climbing strength (I've had some nagging injuries that have greatly reduced my finger strength and endurance)
2) Supplement off-climbing days with some light weight and other endurance training

I've pretty much been doing these things the past year, but I really need to try to stay committed and have at least 3 climbing sessions and 3 cross-training sessions each week.

My big athletic goal for 2012 is to go sub 10 hours at Ironman Canada and hopefully qualify for Kona.

Well my wife decided not to run a half marathon she registered for and since I paid 100 bucks for it I decided I will try it. I haven't run over 5 k before so I have 14 days to figure out how to do that

Trying to run a sub 40 10k this year. I have no idea if it is attainable, especially at my current 200 lbs.

Just keep training your weight doesn't have anything to do with it! I run 5 min km's so far in my day of training so I am impressed by this goal!

Along the same lines...

Boulder solid v6, sport lead solid 5.11d, trad lead solid 5.7 by the end of the year. Few projects I hope to get by the end of the year.

I'm in the early process of organizing a half-marathon charity event . . . . should be able to confirm details in a few weeks. Timed for June 16 right now, in the Calgary area. So I hope all of you with New Years Resolutions will show up!!!

I usually run four or five half-marathons in a year. Hurt my back in early November and lost a lot of fitness through the last six weeks . . . . so the struggle in January is to endure the pain of getting things back up to speed again.

At my age, I'm not really int the business of getting any faster . . . . its just trying to avoid getting slower.

More hiking in newer places with the dogs, including through the winter.

More biking southwest of the city where I live.

More long distance running on bright, sunny winter and summer mornings on lonely country roads, hoping I don't get bounced by a stray cougar.

I usually try to find a half-marathon or something to wrap a vacation around. Ran a half in Tuscon in early November. But haven't got anything planned so far for 2012.

In other words, same kind of year as the year before and the year before that. An ultimately futile attempt of trying not to get older.

I actually lost weight in December!

I hope to ski and skate more often. Learn the front crawl.

I like this thread.
My goals:

1) Complete the Golden Triangle ride in May
2) 5-6 Sprit Tri's (including my first open water swim)
3) Finish my first Olympic distance Tri (Chapparal)

Should be a fun year!

I'd really like to do one of these too. I'm not the world's best long distance runner though. The courses are 14km long. Has anyone done one of these? Is it more like a run or an obstacle course with breif stints of running?

I raced in the pool for 12 years. The biggest key to the front crawl, any stroke for that matter, is the strong kick. When you're in the pool, practice with the flutter-board and once it is strong and you can kick for 200 meters without stopping you'll be ready to include the arms. If you don't learn to kick properly the front crawl gets really tiring after a few lengths... Mind you this is racing stratagem!

Spent the last year building a solid foundation, now want to get down to what I am guessing will be 8-10% body fat range. Pretty inexact science so it is only guesswork.

Bottom line is, I want veins showing across my stomach and torso like when I was 21.

Also I have planned a trip to cycle from Calgary to Vancouver this summer in 9 days. When I get there.... yup, gonna riot.
