Allow me to throw in the obligatory quotes:

"You didn't know them, they were two of the nicest guys you'll ever meet."

"Once again the cops are quick to put off the killings of a couple great guys as gang related activity."

Atleast this way we don't have to pay to have these people kept in Jail....

Yup. If it weren't for the risk of innocent bystanders getting hit, I'd say good on ya, gangsters. Go ahead and kill each other. Just keep shooting until you're all dead.
You've got to have a pretty small penis if you need a gun to feel tough.

This is the reason I feel safe on Calgary streets... virtually the only killings in this city are gang related. I'm not a gang member, so why should I worry about being shot? I do, however, live downtown and work in the NE, so I sometimes worry about getting shot in a driveby, and cringe when I see a little black Honda driving by. I guess I'll have to start watching out for Pathfinders now, too.

I was driving up Crowchild a few weeks ago, when two hondas went zipping by. Weaving in & out, one clearly chasing the other. Literally no regard for anyone else on the road. Those guys must have been going 140 or more in midday traffic. In the time it took for me to pass the old Viscount Bennet school, those guys were around the bend up by 17th.

The guy must have gotten away. I watched the news that night & there was no bullet riddled hondas to report.

One of the killings in June was a case of mistaken identity. Not too mention the fact that innocents get hit in the crossfire. I don't feel nearly as safe as I did say 3 or 4 years ago.

Hard to mistake me, (a caucasian female,) for a gang member.... unless I started dressing like a tramp I suppose.

And I remember the family saying it was a case of mistaken identity... but then it would be easy to hide such a fact as gang involvement from your parents.

The way its going, its only a matter of time before sombody innocent gets killed, and then all hell is going to break lose in this city.

I still find it incredible that we're trailing Edmonton in murders this year tho.

Let them kill each other off; survival of the fittest. If they want to join gangs, then its a risk they have to be willing to take. And as long as they don't hurt bystanders in the process, I'm just not going to worry about gangs in this city - I would consider rapists, pedophiles, and armed robberies more dangerous.

But it doesn't stop there.

How long before the clerk at the gas station gets picked off because he's a witness? What about the people who give police statements? I'd sure be a little anxious about having my name published in a news report, giving a description of the suspect. Wouldn't you?

Another thing that gets me is when I turn on the news & hear about home invasions in the wrong house. These guys think they are the top of the food chain and to hell with the rest of us law abiding people.

Gangs don't just get killed off. It's not like there's 10 of them and it will all be over once 9 of them are shot. Gang violence breeds more gang violence and more recruits. The answer isn't to just wait for them to shoot each other and hope no one gets hit by a stray. I wish it were that easy too, but I think this will get alot worse before it gets any better.

I agree. It's only a matter of time until innocent bystanders get popped.

Anyone remember the biker wars in Montreal during the late 80s - early 90s?

It was a case of mistaken identity but wans't he riding in a car with a gang member? Even if the killings are all gang related I still don't feel safe. With the way these guys are going about thier business (in busy areas, in broad daylight) you never know what will happen. Bullets are bullets, guns are dangerous for a reason. The killing before this one didn't a bullet go through the glass where the cashier would usually be? How about the shooting at a bar, didn't some bullets hit a bystanders car?

Yeah that's what we need, invite the bikers back to Calgary, tell them we're sorry they can have their hookers and dope back if they keep it to that only, and let them deal with the asian gangs

It will be a grave day when bystanders get hit, but that's the risk you take when living in an urban environment; it's pretty much in every city you go. The best you can do to protect yourself is have street smarts - don't walk the back alleys, don't provoke suspicous-looking people, and on and on.

As for the identities thing, the stark majority if it seems to be Asian-related gangs. Anyone who might be driving a pimped-out SUV or Civic and/or wears all black and is aggressive in nature is certainly provoking bad news. Once again, its all about street smarts.

That happened right in front of my in-laws restraunt, good thing she sold the place 2 weeks ago. That takes a lot of balls to just walk up to a car in a really busy parking lot and wack 2 guys in the middle of the day.

why? we pretty much trail them every year. Edmonton, with its more blue collar work force, has always tended to have a high murder rate than Calgary.

This gang violence has to come to an end somehow. Eventually innocents are going get hit and then everything gets blown up to even bigger proportions.
