Unless he asks to be traded I don't see it happening.

Oh great. I'm not entirely sure if this question required its own thread, as it seems to be hinted at in every other thread on CP

I'm not opposed to the idea of trading him, however I don't welcome it either.

Lets just look at the last 2 times the Flames have traded a core player.
Phaneuf, did you like who Sutter got in return? Do you think he strengthened or weakened the team?
Regehr, did you like who Feaster got in return?
Do you think Butler and Byron have improved the Flames?
Both were garbage returns for the Flames.
I like the sports romance of Iggy remaining a Flame for life, but what bothers me is does he still honestly think the Flames should pay him $7m a year and will that dirtbag Meehan demand it from the Flames.
I'm more worried that the Flames will trade Iginla for a garbage return.
They don't seem to negotiate their player assets to well. They have failed at it.
They should not trade Iginla unless they recieve a 1st round pick, a 2nd line Center and a prospect that they covet.
If a team is not willing to play ball, then ef them you don't just give him away for HC eyesores that the GM wants to cast off.
Just like TOR and BUF both did.

If you get a decent return and he waives his trade clause the Flames should really consider this. The Flames are in retool mode and years away from contending. Our 2 best players are 35+ years (Iginla and Kipper). They have a few more good seasons but what happens after that if you don't have talent in the pipeline to replace?
Iginla can always return later in his career (hopefully with a Stanley Cup ring) and close out a season with the Flames. I'd hate to lose Iginla but the team comes first.

Perhaps a more relevant question would be, do the current Flames miss the types of players Phaneuf and Regehr are now?

I don't think it will happen. But I'm not opposed to it. If a big offer comes along, I would jump at it.

I would hope the win now mandate might not be in effect if or when the Flames actually trade Iginla. That mandate is partially why the return on the Phaneuf trade was so bad, the Regehr trade was not a terrible trade.

Ultimately, I dont think its worth it. The return at this point is going to be pretty dismal.
If you could Tkachuk him though that might be an idea.

with a quarter of the season almost complete, and if the next quarter plays out about the same, i would be downright disappointed not to hear the likes of iginla, kipper, giordano, bouwmeester, tanguay, cammalleri, glencross, stajan, butler, jackman, comeau in the rumour mill.

Theres not much sense in trading from that group. Not going to really get anything in return out of a group that cant boast a whole lot of quality.

Byron is a waste and Butler i would never trade for unless it was a 7th round pick or you had to take him in order to make a trade for a bigger name and he was just thrown in the trade.
Both players are not needed on the Flames and add not no competitive advantage to the Flames.

The flames were statistically better without regehr and with butler. It's not that cut and dried obviously, but can you honestly say trading regehr has had impact on success of the flames?

I don't get this. A garbage return is better than no return. If you trade him and he doesn't sign here in the summer, he had no intentions of signing if they would have kept him.
If he wants to stay here, trading him will not affect that decision. If they are out of the running at the deadline, by no means should they hold onto him for sentimental reasons. If they are out, Iggy should put the team ahead of himself for 3-4 months, let them get a return (what ever they can) and sign back here in the off season.
No doubt Iggy will be in the front office like Conny after his playing career and what better way to help contribute some assets by allowing ownership to ship you out a couple time for a few months and sign back on after. It's a win/win.
If team success was his real interest and he's a Flame through and through, it will happen as mentioned above.

thats ridiculous. When traded they were very very valuable on the market.
The Flames recieved next to no value because they didn't seek it. They caved and settled for the ugly 3am chick.

Such a myth. One dimensional defensive d-men are never that valuable. You'd think we would have learned that by now.

I wouldn't blame Iggy for wanting to go somewhere that he has a better chance at winning a cup but I wouldn't be surprised at all if he spends his whole career with the Flames even if it meant not winning a cup.

There was little interest in Regehr which is why the Flames didn't get much of a return. I am still stunned by how many Flames fans thought he was some major asset that could bring a great return. The league knew well he lost a couple of steps and is simply a depth guy that's in the range of Sarich. Do fans really think the Sabres think they made a great deal? Chris Butler is more of an asset than Regehr is today which means the Flames likely win the deal.
