Default Kane plays the race card

as an encore to his stacks-o-money cellphone antics, Evander Kane proves his ######-bag bonafides by playing the race card:
Winnipeg Jets forward Evander Kane says in a soon-to-be published interview that part of the criticism he receives is racially motivated.
In a story set to be released in the Mar. 4 issue of The Hockey News, the 21-year-old said, "I think a good portion of (criticism) is because I'm black and I'm not afraid to say that."
Kane was criticized most famously for a Twitter photo of him in Las Vegas holding stacks of money to his ear like a telephone.
That hasn't been the only thing the former fourth-overall pick has been criticized for in hockey-mad Winnipeg however.
"It's just the way I'm wired," Kane told Ken Campbell of The Hockey News. "Maybe my parents loved me the proper way, so I love myself."
He acknowledged that not all of the criticism has racial tones.
"I don't feel like a victim and I don't want to be perceived as one," he said.
Funny how Iggy has played 15 years and not once claimed to be a victim of racisim. Newsflash to Kane: Its not the colour of your skin, its the douchiness of your bag.

Ha..........of course he did.

It has nothing to do with the fact that some people perceive his grandstanding behavior as d-bagish, immature, and/or lame.

I hate it when white people are trigger happy to pull the race card, I hate it moreso when black people reach for it when there isn't bases as well.

While racism is a very real issue in hockey, and Kane may have some leg to stand when dealing with minuscule issues, the idea that racism forms his entire public perception is ridiculous.

People don't hate you because you're black. People hate you because you're a tool.

Yeah, that was more of a timing issue (in regards to the Vegas picture dealio) and slapping the fans in the face with the stack of cash... But hey, whatever works for ya!

I think Alex Burrows is a D-bag too, but that doesn't mean I'm anti Quebec. Same thing with Kane. If you are a D-bag, you're a D-bag. It doesn't matter what your background or race is.

It doesn't matter the color of your skin Evander the way you carry yourself is ###### baggery so grow up you punk.

I used to like him and thought he was a future franchise winger but he doesn't seem to have the intangibles to be a franchise player. Way to much of a me first guy. The Jets should consider moving him.

It's hard to say whether he's overreaching without the context of the interview, but there was definitely a different tone to the reaction to this...

...than there was to this...

One is self deprecating, the other grand standing. The race is neutral in this comparison imo

Maybe, but I don't think anyone would have said Commodore belongs in the NBA even if he hadn't been joking.

I don't doubt there are some differences in the way people judge him that are subconsciously based on race. Look at the thread here about something as simple as a haircut ... people's reaction to that was ridiculous, and it was just some letters shaved into his head.

I'm sorry, but no.

That being said, I recall there being some backlash to Commodore.

Iginla is one of the classiest players to play the game, and receives very little hate due to that, and none of the hate he get is NOT race-driven. All my respect has completely been lost for this player. I don't think any comments have been outright racist to any african-american players besides the Boston issue.
