Anybody for some Friday afternoon Shiny? Nov 9th or 16th?
So, I am really wanting to play some hockey, I don’t want to wait until the outdoor rinks are ready and am not playing men’s league this year…thus am wondering if some folks would be interested a CP Shinny game? I would propose we rent the ice at a somewhat central city of Calgary arena for 1.5 hours at 2 or 230pm on a Friday. This is considered “non prime time” and we would be able to get 1.5 hours of ice for only $150, meaning with 15 guys we’d be paying $10 each…less if we get more. We could also book at Flames Community arenas (just off Crowchild and Glenmore) for just over $135 for 1.5 hours, which is the cheapest and also a really convenient location, IMO.
I thought the Friday afternoon might work for a decent amount of people, I know a lot of o&g employees (and others) get every second Friday off and I (like others I know) have the flexibility to work a ½ day Friday. Uni students might be able to get in on the action as well. I would say so long as you can skate and shoot we’d be happy to have you. The “prime time” slots cost more then double and are often really hard to book, so I am really hoping this Friday idea works. Hell, if you have to work on the Friday we decide on, simply call in sick/take the day off because we all know Hockey is more important and a helluva lot more fun then any job.
Just looking for some feedback right now ie. who would be interested? Between November 9th and 16th which would work better? Do we have any goalies willing to play? What arena would everyone prefer (considering we want something central and also considering Flames Community is the cheapest)?
I have no problem paying up front for the ice but will need some of the money in advance to make sure people actually show up, but we can work that all out if we get enough interest. If we can make this work smoothly and we get enough interested parties we could see about playing a few more times this season.
