Franzen Blues into Calgary

The Flames dialed up St Louis GM RT and swung a deal over 7 days of arduous dealings:

To the Flames

• Franzen, Johan (RW) NHL
• 3rd rd pick

To the Blues

• Langkow, Daymond (C) NHL
• Gagner, Sam (RW) NHL

Although St Lou GM RT was difficult to get a hold of and continued to change the face of the deal, both GMs finally agreed on the scope. Franzen will provide the Flames with more pop up front and Halpern will fill the hole left from Langkow.
Tough to lose a player like Gagne who could end up significantly better this year, but the gamble had to be made.

Although we hate to lose Franzen's scoring ability, the Blues were in desperate need of an upgrade at the #2 C position, and could use Langkow for the 3rd as well. We save a tiny bit of cap and also give ourselves more Cheese room.

At 22 years of age (CPHL age), we believe Gagner still has room to improve and hope that it's not with the NHL's Oilers. He's only a 3ov downgrade and 10 years younger than Franzen and we upgraded our 3rd line in the process.

Cheese was a blast to deal with, would recommend to friends!

I'm sure the elderstatsmen of the flames were getting tired of taking a young skip like Sam to chuckle cheese after games instead of dealing him intorage usual game of bridge. Franzen makes a lot more sense.
