First time I have ever sided with bees. A part of me was hoping for a bee comeback, but to no avail.

I've seen this video before. I wonder how these giant hornets will fare against killer bees. I'm sure the outcome would be a lot more different, since killer bees are far more aggressive.

Wow. Quite the Slaughter. Hornets are Ruthless..

I am thinking Killer Bees would put up a much better fight.

a whole colony wiped out by 30 hornets.

I've read recently that the bees have actually developed a defense against the hornets. I'm trying to find the article, but seems to be having no luck. If anyone can find this article, please post it.

Apparently, the bees will surround the hornet and basically raise their body temperature to "cook" the hornet to death. Pretty impressive.

I saw this video a few weeks back on TLC I do believe. Most of this was taken in Japan, and it chronicled the life of honey bees and their Japanese bee keepers. It was pretty interesting (creepy, but interesting).

The defense Bruce is speaking of is when the Hornets send out lone scouts to try and find bee hives. Apparently the hornet scouts release some kind of scent to mark the hives, then fly back to their nests and bring the rest of the posse to rumble with the bees. The bee defense to the initial lone hornet scout is to pile on and surround it, then vibrate their wings to raise the heat to a level the hornet can't withstand (I can't remember what that is). Apparently honey bees can withstand a heat level 1 degree higher than the hornet.

Neat stuff.
