Default Olympic GDT - 31 July

Some of the Canadian athletes in action today

For a list of every Canadian in every event, check: http://olympic.ca/canadian-schedule

10:00 Men’s 100m Freestyle Swimming Heats/Semi Finals (19:30), Aquatic Centre
Brent Hayden, a 10-year member of the Canadian national team and taking part in his third Olympic Games is hoping to do much better than his shock 14th place in Beijing. He’s back on form and says he’s feeling very positive about his last Olympics. Go Brent!

14:30 Women’s Football, First Round Group F. Canada v. Sweden, St James’s Park Newcastle
Canada’s women take on the mighty Swedes – one of the top teams in the world. Go Girls!

15:00 Women’s Synchronised 10m Platform Diving, Aquatics Centre
Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion are in a field of eight in this event. Both are returning to the Olympics for the second time and were silver medalists in the 10m synchronized event at the 2012 World Cup, meaning that they are in with a chance of a podium place.

20:00 Women’s Beach Volleyball Preliminary Round, Horseguards
Canadians Marie-Andree Lessard and Annie Martin take on the Russian Federation in the beautiful Beach Volleyball arena at Horseguards.

What else is going on today?
Other Olympic events today include equestrian team eventing; men’s canoe slalom; and women’s team gymnastics.

Go Brent!

A met a bunch of fellow Canucks at the get together yesterday, but no one from Calgary. Boo. I hope everyone is having a great time in London!

Really hoping the Canadian soccer team can somehow miraculously get to at least the semi-finals since I've got tickets for Monday night at Wembley. It would be amazing.

Wozniak is having a rough go also, but is trying to get back into it. Too bad the Canadians have to play at the same time.

Milos could have won this in straight sets if not for one bad service game and a handful of missed opportunities in the first. Hopefully he can pull it out in 3.

Canada's down 2-0 to Sweden in women's soccer. Why did they start McLeod? Awful stuff.

Canadian medal alert:

Antoine Valois-Fortier will fight in a bronze-medal match in the men’s -81kg judo coming up soon. He lost in the quarterfinals but has now fought his way through the bronze medal match. We still don't know his opponent yet, it will be the loser of the kor/rus semifinal.

McLeod is a loose Cannon back there. Constantly they have to rebound and come back from her terrible over aggressive play.

Eric D. says Milos will have an easy path in the draw if he can get by Tsonga.

Let it never be said that Canadians are not good at jumping into water at the same time and in the same way as the person beside us.

We're good at getting into the water, just not so good once we're in it.

Well if Milos can get by he should make it to the quarters, but then it'll be Djokovic waiting, so I really can't see him pulling that off, though best 2 out of 3 gives him a much better chance than 3 out of 5.
