Default New Record for Spiderman Original Art by McFarlane

Wow! Original comic art is the only thing worth investing 'comic wise' anymore. I had a chance back in the early 90s to buy McFarlane's cover art to Hulk 340, the one with wolverine on it from him at a comic show in Edmonton. He wouldn't go lower than $400! That one must be worth at least $500k now if the Amazing 328 got $657k!

Phoenix Comics on 17th ave had the original art to Amazing Spider-man 300, the first appearance of Venom!!

Artist Todd McFarlane’s original cover art for The Amazing Spider-Man No. 328 has sold for a record $657,250 at auction, just one among several pieces from the 1990s that went for hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The McFarlane cover, which shows Spider-Man gut-punching the Hulk, was part of a collection of original art owned Martin Shamus, a Long Island, N.Y.-based comics and memorabilia shop owner.
Calgary-born and raised McFarlane drew several titles for Marvel Comics in the 1990s and then left to develop his own character, Spawn, and form Image Comics with other artists and writers.

McFarlane’s (IMO superior) original art for the Spider-Man #1 also sold in the same auction, and brought in $358,500.

Just going on the black & white illustrations I'd peg em about equal in terms of quality. The "Hulk" cover may be pushed over the top due to the breaking of the grid in the masthead, assuming the crumbling text "The Amazing Spider-man" was also illustrated by McFarlane I can see why some one might prefer it over Spider-Man #1.

Heck I'd gladly display either on my wall.

I'm pretty sure I post this every time original art comes up and it isn't going to stop me from doing it again this time:

I'd much rather have this McFarlane cover.
