Cop shooter granted bail today
Quote:
A 27-year-old man who was the subject of an intensive manhunt after the shooting of two Killam RCMP officers in February has been granted bail, and will be released from custody on Friday.
Sawyer Robison is charged with two counts of attempted murder and more than a dozen firearm-related offences in connection with the Feb. 8 shooting that wounded constables Sidney Gaudette and Sheldon Shah at a rural property southeast of Killam.
Robison was denied bail at a hearing in April, but was granted bail in a Wetaskiwin court on Wednesday evening, Alberta Justice has confirmed. His release order takes effect on Friday at 5 p.m.

Does the judge really think this guy deserves to be out on bail? What about the safety of the general public?

A great day to be a criminal in Canada. The guy who is accused of bombing the wheelchair mother got released on bail too. Honestly, the justice system in this country no longer surprises me.

Wow. That's nuts.
I bet if he has a gram of weed with him at the time of his arrest though, bail would have been denied.

He allegedly shot a couple people 4 or 5 months ago. He has not been found guilty yet. In all Western democracies, including Canada's, the presumption of innocence is one of the cornerstones of the justice system. If a judge deemed he was neither a danger to the public nor a flight risk, then there's no reason that he should be denied bail.
If he's found guilty, he'll be going to prison for a long time. There's no reason to go nuts because he was granted pre-trail bail. Remember that these rights also apply to you. If one day you are ever accused of a crime, I'm sure you won't be calling the justice system "ludacris" if you are granted bail.

Not sure people get arrested for these types of crime without a great deal of evidence........ I'm horrifed by this.
It's not cool, but I hope this guy does something horrific and some changes in the system get made.

We don't know the conditions yet, other than a $100,000 bond was required, including $10,000 cash.

I would be way more confortable with these decisions if electronic monitoring was used to enforce the conditions of bail are met 100%. Cut the bail in half for all I care, but if you are out on bail, charged with a violent crime, LEO's should be able you know your exact location 24 hours a day.

I dont understand why people get so upset when people are let out on bail. Its not as if they are being found not-guilt, they will have their court date eventually.
Plus I would rather these individuals get released on bail with certain conditions than spend the year incarcerated until their court date, only to get double-credit for that time served when/if they are found guilty.
