Default Calgary woman brutally assaulted in Mexican resort

Read this today, a mysterious story. Woman on a trip to Mexico goes to sleep in her room with her husband, the husband wakes up in the morning and finds her missing. Meanwhile wife was found in an elevator by another guest in a bloody mess, all the bones in her face broken, she now lays in a medically induced coma in Mexico.

with so many brutal stories coming out of Mexico regarding tourists i don't know why anyone would go down there. there are so many more warm destinations to head to where you don't have to worry as much about getting shot or beat up

The fact that this was IN the resort makes me not want to visit Mexico again. You always here "stay in the resort, stay in the resort." This is the first time I've heard about tourists getting assaulted IN the resort.

Scary stuff.

Just another reason why I will never travel to Mexico.

I suspect she will have long lingering nightmares after she has recoverd from her injuries. It makes me sick what they did to her!

This isn't the first one, a few years back there was a couple that had their throats cut in their own hotel room. Police there didn't do anything about it

I always wanted to goto Mexico before, but with the last decade of drug violence and horrible corrupt/incompetent police, I don't know if I'll be there anytime soon.

EDIT: Dang, beat by Zevo by 30 seconds.

I heard today that over 50 people are murdered each day in Mexico. I feel for the family and am disgusted by the act however the rare occurance of these events are not going to prevent me from going down and enjoying my vacation.
The whole stay on your resort thing is true... a couple Canadians in the past few years have been killed on their resort??

Back on track, the resort has cameras and although not in the elevator I am sure they can put 2 and 2 together. Hears to hoping that they catch the SOB who did this and throw him in the middle of a drug war.

****Before flaming begins, i want to re iterate that my opinion is of the media making it sound more dangerous than it is. Yes sick things like this have happened but I believe it happens in many areas and Mexico is a better story.

While looking into this I also read that more civilians are killed every year in Mexico than Afghanistan! That boggles my mind

Seems like there's more to the story.
How does she end up getting snatched from her room, which should have the door locked, & into the elevator without her husband noticing she's gone?

On the news they mentioned something about letting the entire police force go because it was so corrupt and that the biggest problem is they dont have detectives and their prosecution rate is 1.5%. I think that is the biggest problem but of course it stems back to the drugs which is money and the drug money will pay a cop a lot more than the wage he would make. The only way to solve all this is to crack down BIG time on the drugs and I just dont see it happening.

Couldn't agree more, unfortunately perception is reality and people will stay away.

I'm a heavy sleeper. I can sleep through almost anything. But I always know when my wife gets out of the bed. Call it "instinct" I guess. There has to be more going on here.

1. Goes to sleep with her husband in their hotel room.
2. At some point she leaves on her own or is forced out of the room.
3. The husband does not awake during this?

There has to be more to the story.
