Default OLN to launch Storage Wars Canada

As usual Canada is a few years behind another shows "success".

Quote:
Canadians are joining the treasure-hunting fray on "Storage Wars Canada," set to start production in May 2013, announced OLN, producer Proper Television and global distributor FremantleMedia.

"Storage Wars Canada" has been greenlit for a whopping 36 30-minute episodes, with filming to take place in locations around Ontario.

"Storage Wars Canada" features four professional buyers as they use their knowledge, expertise, and wit to bid on the contents of abandoned, repossessed, and forgotten storage containers. With only a matter of minutes to scan the contents of the locker using only the beam of a flashlight, the high-stakes fun begins when the buyers have to try and outbid each other for the resulting locker, which could be full of trash … or treasure.

I wonder if they'll plant items for television purposes like they do on the U.S. version.

They have to. There's no excitement in watching a guy spend $250 for a stack of old porn and household items or other garbage.

I'm kind of ashamed to admit it, but I went through a pretty dark time last year. I would watch episode after episode of Storage Wars when it was on TV. Then I discovered how to watch US Netflix on my AppleTV and found the entire back catalogue of Storage Wars available any time I wanted it. Money owns this town and for a while, it owned me too.

I managed to kick the habit and avoid Storage Wars Texas altogether. There was a brief relapse for an episode of Storage Wars New York, but since I had been off the stuff for a while, it just didn't do it for me.

Every once in a while I get a pang for Jarrod and Brandi's banter, Dave Hester's trademark "Yuuuuuuup!", or the next stupid thing that comes out of Darrel's mouth. I have persevered, however, each day is a struggle.

Was Brandi a stripper once? I thought I watched an episode where Jarrod said he met her while he was bouncing at a club.

Hester has since been kicked off the show and then tried to sue A&E. Lost a few weeks ago. Dan the Auctioneer testified in court stating that the lockers properly go through a 64 day legal process and no one has access to lockers prior to auction.

I personally think there is editing and some retakes but to say that in court may kibosh the "rigging" angle. Although, when they go off to do buy another locker - i guess the show can put something in....

still like to watch it for barry and brandi!

Hester was kicked off? They finally have enough of his pompousness or what?

Is the case concluded? I thought the judge just tossed out the unfair business practices claim but the wrongful termination part is still going ahead.

Granted, the unfair business practices allegations were what caught everyone's attention in the first place and if those go away, the wrongful termination case is probably a lot weaker too.

They are not married, common law 12 years same thing really.
I think she was but he wasn't a bouncer he was the announcer where she danced at a club called
the Seventh Veil and he spent some time in prison on drug trafficking charges.
Can't recall what site that was on though.

Do they plant things or just vastly overrate the value of things that they find?

I watched it early on and they would show people paying money for the things they found (easily faked though) and now it seems they just say what it is worth without ever showing them actually getting that.

Hester was the worst for this never having lockers where he didn't clear a couple of grand on each.

I know being a stripper at 22 is different from posing in a magazine 12 years later (and possibly with kids) but with the way they seem to be grubbing for money you would think something would come of this with her showing those puppies off.

Darrel Sheets is really bad for that too. "This is a hundred dollar bill all day." A bunch of broken power tools? "That's at least five hundred dollars right there."

I like when they find a large locker full of things like books (Hester) or CDs/records (Jarrod/Brandi). "At $3 per CD we got like $2,000 here!" "Each box has 100 books at $5 per book we've got at least $15,000 worth of books here." ...which completely disregards the fact that for that stuff to be worth what you're saying, someone's going to have to buy it first. And it might not sell right away so you have to factor in how much it's going to cost to store and display it. At least the Pawnstars guys are up front about that stuff when they offer $50 for the thing the expert just said is worth $5,000.

It has to be a really hard way to make a living. Spending $500 on a locker that turns out to be "worth" $3500 sounds awesome. Until you pay wages, rent, taxes and everything else so that the net is probably closer to $300. That's on a home run. Think of how many buys they make and its a gain of $1000.

The real money here is in the TV show and maybe a few bucks in the side merchandise if people really want a T-shirt.

I just enjoy Barry cause he's already a baller so he's there for some entertainment. I find it so funny how he's always just looking for specialty items and just throws the rest of the crap around with no regard. While everyone else is tabbing that crap up as $5-20 profits.

Yeah I think I heard that they make something like 10K each per episode. Gotta figure that the show brings a lot of customers to their store as well... probably make a bunch off of casual buys from folk who go to their stores/swap-meets just because of the show.
