Habs/Wild Deal
To Montreal:
Brenden Morrow
5.68 million cap space
To Minnesota:
Niklas Jensen
This is the sort of deal that's tough to match valuations on. How much is a 69 OV UFA worth in pure prospect terms? I win big this year. Grant wins every year after this one, since I won't be able to re-sign Morrow. Jensen's a nice prospect, but is at least a couple years from making a difference. When he is ready to make the jump, he has a deep Canucks forward group to try to crack and impress on.
On our part, Montreal is saying, "screw this chemistry crap! We'll just keep adding better and better players and we'll HAVE to make the playoffs. We won't be the Minnesota of the East and fail against all odds. That is not even within the realm of what I am willing to accept is possible."
Our second newest player, Dustin Penner, is going to be pissed as we drop him to the fourth line, since Leino and Plekanec seem to have found some chemistry on the third. Penner is available...I'd like the deal to involve me ending up with a 1st round draft pick.
