Do you want athletic sneakers or "stylish" sneakers?

What about Blue Light Special? I would check out The Gallery as well... They don't have a lot, but they're nice. Maybe that store on 4th beside Henry.. I forget what it's called. It's upstairs. Could be Group7?

Too bad this isn't a over priced fancy leather shoe thread, peter12 would be all over it.

i dunno, i doubt that you are getting a pair of sneaks at a specialty shop for less than $150 and as anyone who has bought shoes knows, that is clearly in the upper end of shoe pricing, unless you are a 1%'r - then the line moves to $300 (or so I have heard)

What are we talking about with 'specialty' here? If we're talking Nikes etc. then there's no way you shouldn't be able to find great limited run styles for less than $150 (unless the markup in Calgary is absurd). I typically pay around $120 for SB Dunks and have a pretty massive selection to choose from (although there are obviously more limited edition shoes that go for insane amounts).
Not sure if they ship to Canada, but I get most of my shoes at Flight Club. http://www.flightclubny.com/

Specialty = Limited Run/ Discontinued, not something you typically can find at Sportchek.

Try going to Henry Singer and checking the price on a pair of Lanvin mids... 650 at minimum, some pairs (depending on their buy) exceed a cool grand. Same with some Raf Simons hi's, particularly astronauts.
Personally, I think I'm sticking with Margielas from now on.

No real good specialty shops left in Calgary, even though we never really had any to begin with. Good Foot, and Livestock never really brought in anything that was that great.
Pretty much have to order online to get anything in Calgary. I am going to Vegas in a couple weeks and am pretty excited to hit up some of the Nike Outlets, and the Nike ID store to get my own pair of shoes created.

They are the only place that has anything really right now and they are also looking at picking up the Premier Nike account that Live Stock had before they left Calgary.
Even group is lacking now though and really only have some Huf, Hundreds, Native, and Alife footwear. Great store and nice new location but they are facing some growing pains as well.

my tastes are pedestrian at best - personally i am fine with spending $120 or less for a pair of nikes at sportchek (i'd prefer a pair similar to those worn and endorsed by thosuands of others)........
personally the margielas aren't my style and they are way out of my price range......
