Micron CEO Steve Appleton dies in a plane crash
http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-...03-712176.html
Not too sure how many people here are interested (maybe if you hold shares) but he died in a small plane crash today. Micron is one of the memory giants that survived 2008. One of my former roommates used to work for Micron (now Aptina).

Micron was a good memory maker in the 90s. RIP, Steve.

I don't know, I don't really know companies outside of the ones relevant to my company or directly related to my company.
I can tell you about what's going to be in iPhone in 2 years though.
(Actually I probably can't, otherwise I'd get canned)

Getting canned is the least of your worries. Apple will send FBI agents to search your house and sue your a$$ for every penny that you have

Yeah... they wouldn't even have to go far. I live a mile from Apple HQ.
They could be here in 30 seconds...

Incidentally I interfaced a rather large Micron SRAM to a Blackfin.
T'was a fun troubleshooting and moving code around so that when putting the device into a sleep mode, that the code that put the product to sleep and disabled the SRAM wasn't actually running in SRAM.
And that's all I have to say about Micron.

http://www.digitalmooselounge.com/ may be your best bet... though its not easy.
Apple is very pretentious about which schools they hire out of.... I know a Canadian guy who has 20+ years experience, worked at Apple for 10 years but he's been a contractor all 10 of those years and he's still trying to get a full time position at Apple.
Honestly, the best way, if you are willing to pay out of the ass and commit a year or two or school.... get a MS at Stanford. You can get in with a pretty low GPA, and with their grade inflation, everyone gets an A. There's also a certificate program for those already with a MS called Professional Education certificate, a short cut into the Valley as well.

The whole merit based on your paper degree rather than your actual skills seems kind of absurd, given that Steve Jobs was all for not going to college (he just sat in classes he was interested in)...

I think a lot of companies recruit straight from university, so there isn't much proof of ability aside from grades and co-op / internship experience. I can see why they'd want to do it this way and indoctrinate fresh minds into a particular role. I assume they look at more than just grades though. The guys I knew who went to Apple after grad did work for about a year before heading out there.
The whole means of recruitment does make me want to go and do graduate studies just so I can have that "new grad" advantage again. But I don't know if I would want to work for such a huge company, I get the impression from other people that I know that you do get rather pigeon-holed and work on much smaller portions of a large project instead of really owning it.

Yeah it is kind of ironic... I don't have many good things to say about Apple (they do make good profits / they're a good stock though)... for the record, I would not want to work at Apple. There are way better companies out there you can work for.

I had a Micron exhaust pipe on my 2001 Honda VFR 800.
RIP, the world of exhaust pipes and molded skates lost a true visionary.

Not a good year for CEOs named Steve who are somehow related to the word Apple
