Default Anniversary Gift horseback riding?

Well first wedding anniversary is coming up quickly and I need to think of something. Was going to do Miami flight that cmyden posted but that went away quickly.

She is addicted to the show Heartland on CBC so I thought maybe horseback riding would be a fun gift. I like the idea of doing an overnight trail ride but after googling most places only do weekend rides and the cost an arm and a leg to go on.

Anyone here know of any places that would be good to try and get some horseback riding in?

Or does anyone have horses on this forum who would like to take us on a trail ride?

There is nice ranch up by Sundre - the rooms are nice and the food is pretty good. I think it would a good overnight destination. Sadly, at my advanced age I cannot think of the name, but I just remember that is run by a German family.

If you can't find any good horseback riding, make you could take her to a donkey show?

Better yet, maybe she would like to star in said show?

Would this be the one?

I am assuming you have looked at brewster's ranch just off of the the trans Canada?

An overnighter may not be that enjoyable for both of you if you are not used to spending time in the saddle.

As an aside, I want to take my wife to that hike in place where the royals stayed.

Why we should be eating horses, not riding them

I am not sure if you want to gift her with an activity. Don't you need to do the activity and give her a gift too? Afterall you only get one chance for that first anniversary.

I think I would like to stay away from the big fancy tour companies and try and get something smaller and intimate. A small bed and breakfast would be good just need to find one that has horses or find someone who wouldn't mind bringing a couple horses out

There are some pretty sweet tree house cabins that you could go to...There would be no horseback riding though....There could be some bareback though

Western Saddles can be very stimulating.

There are plenty of dude ranches around where you could do a day ride I think. There is one west of Turner Valley, and another NW of Cochrane. I forget the names.

She got enough gifts a year ago at the wedding. I had to buy her jewelry and her gift to me was I was allowed to buy a motorcycle. She does not get a gift and activity this time! Since my gift is probably going to be that I am allowed to cut the lawn and clean out the garage.

Hands down the best riding around calgary is Griffin Valley, grew-up riding there....if you pay for a membership ( $80.00 ) you can go on a ride without a guide....
Huge area to ride around on too...

You need a beer fridge in your garage, then when you go to clean the garage you can just take your time and drink all the beer without getting yelled at.

I can't wait to get married. It sounds like it will finally be acceptable to get hammered by myself on Sunday afternoons.

Now I know why my dad "watches golf".

The Rafter Six ranch West of Calgary has cabins, a zipline and a few options for horseback trail rides.

I was going to suggest this. We were married at Rafter Six and a number of our guests went horseback riding after the ceremony and raved about it.
