How long does this take? and what is the best way to get there?

It looks like it might be faster to go through Fernie to Cranbrook down to Interstate 95?

Depends on how fast your drive....

But in all honesty we go to Spokane for a hockey tournament every April, and I find that going through Radium to Cranbrook shaves 30 minutes off the drive. Cross at the Kingsgate Border Crossing. From there head through Sandpoint to Cour'D'Alene, all in all depending on how quick you get through the border and how many stops and such, you are probably looking at a time frame around 7 hours.

It's quicker to take 22 down to Hwy 3 and then East to Cranbrook, but it's a hell of a lot more boring drive. Sandpoint can be really congested on a long weekend.

Oh, and it's "Coeur".

I have a buddy who went down there for that tournament earlier this month. He said the hockey got in the way of the drinking.

Any idea why this is? We drove to Spokane last October and the traffic to get through Sandpoint was horrible...

The highway just isn't big enough for the traffic volume. All those damn rednecks have cars too!

Also, at Sandpoint you have to make a few turns through the town to get back on the highway. It's usually a good place for a pitstop.

Did they see the great intersection of Sprague and Division?

It seemed like such a mythical place, watching KREM 12 in the 1970s.

And while there, go to Hudson's Hamburgers downtown near the lake. Get a burger and a pie (they don't waste time with fries) and try to tell me it isn't one of the best burgers you've ever had in your life.

If you are young at heart they have an awesome amusement park with the coolest boat/water gun ride there. That was 8 years ago but I still have fond memories of me and my brother ganging up on this guy

It sounds like he's referring to Silverwood Theme Park.

You can't miss it on Hwy 95 between Coeur d'Alene and Sandpoint.

We go down the 3 and then Cranbrook and across the border ... I recall it being about 6.5 hours and I don't speed or anything. Nice enough for a weekend but I can't imagine much more than that.

The last time I was there was likely over ten years ago, but they had an awesome oval slick track, go-kart track in Sandpoint. Keep an eye out for it on your way through. It was great fun and in all honesty the only thing I remember about the trip down there.

If you have a little extra time but its not too much of a detour

I would sugest going through the Roosville crossing and taking this route as there is some amazing scenery on the Montana side of Lake Kookanusa and along Lake Pend Oreille.

You might not lose much time as there is a lot less traffic on these roads as well.

Bump for relevance. Going to do this drive August long to pick up a TV, what are some nice accommodations and/or restaurants/pubs and shopping centers I should be checking out when I'm down there?

Spokane Valley Mall
has a Hollister, Aeropostle, American Eagle, JC Penny, Macys and Sears
theres lots of Good shopping along the Highway 93 a personal favorite is Fred Meyer which is alot like real Canadian Superstore except better
Silver Wood (really fun amusement/waterpark)
Costco's are amazing down there
Mackenzie River Pizza Company is personally my favorite place to eat there
stay at the red lion in post falls
or the Best western Couredalane
AVOID THE COUERDALANE INN ITS JUNK
