It's been out for a while, and I haven't seen any discussion about it on here. You know, the inukshuk that looks like a hockey goalie.
Personally, I think it's a great idea but it's a crappy logo, especially compared with Turino's:
It might have looked okay if the stones had ragged edges rather than looking like they were formed with playdoh. And that grin looks so stupid. I really hate to think about when they try to have a mascot based around this. Lame.

No! Which p*sses me off.
This is Vancouver and Whistlers Olympics. Not BCs and certainly not Canadas. The symbol was chosen because it represented all of Canada, well you know what? fata that! We didn't win this bid because people like Saskatoon. The IOC didn't say "Hey Vancouver needs to win because St.Johns is just such a cool place!" It didn't happen.
I want to see mountains, trees and a pot leaf in the BC olympic logo, not an inuit rock statue that isn't even found in BC. [/rant over]

2010's emblem won't be as distinct or as recognizeable as this in 20 years.
Red and white, maple leafs, snow flake with a bunch of "C"'s for Canada and Calgary.
Simple.
With all the different elements and colors supposed to represent Canada's physical and ethnic cultural diversity with Vancouvers, its a little too complicated, and needs a proper explanation to see it as a somewhat cool logo and understand. If thats black and white without the colors...it loses some cache, and looks like an attempt at drawing JS Gigure in MS Paint by fotze.
Ours in 1988 was instantly recognizable, red color or not...the more you looked, the more you could see in it on your own.

Yeah, they are in every tourist trap you go into. Maple syrup and glass rock statues. Very much "Canadiana"....
I keep thinking the designers were pondering "What's Canadian?" and remembered those tourist trap statues. "And if we cross it with the smile from that Iron Giant fellow..."

That's a great attitude you got there. The typical always wanting all of it or might as well leave it. God I hope you are kidding.

I think it's just such a cliche, and a waste of an oppurtunity. Although I find Blaster86's view laughable, there was plenty of oppurtunity to use dynamic and or ethnic symbols from BC that would translate well as canadian. I mean if you were going to be that obvious and uncreative why didn't they just throw in a totem pole!!!

would've liked to see some haida art, more representative of bc's (dead) culture.
up north where i was born, fort nelson bc, there is a lot of inuit culture / sculptures / seal-skin clothes for sale. but it's hardly representative of the bulk of bc's population, or even the bulk of bc's native population.
this logo is quite weak, i'm sure i've built better sculptures in grade-3 cultural studies.

I'm not huge fan of Vancouver's, but IMO that one there is ugly.
I'm sure you can explain intellectually why it's a good logo, but artistically it's quite lacking.
And who cares what Vancouver's would look like in black & white? It's a colour logo! It's like saying Calgary's wouldn't make sense if it were all green.

I don't understand why they didn't make one of the sections black, to incorporate all 5 of the olympic colours. Also why did they give the head a mouth? Gives the whole thing a pac-man feel I don't think they were going for. All in all, it's ok. Went for something a little unique, but they should have probably stuck to the leaf and the red and white.
As for Blasters view, I actually agree with him. They should have made the logo a pot-smoking hippie activist in tye dye and flip flops, passed out on top of an evergreen stump while being drenched by rain. Now that symbol would be uniquely Vancouverian. (My apologies to all the normal BC folk).

Does that mean you'll be more than happy to cover all the expenses should the Olympics budget go into the stratosphere?
You know.........since it's not all of B.C.'s Olympics, it's yours?
Sounds good to me.
I guess I'll tell people in my area trying to lure ski teams to use Red Mountain in Rossland as a training hill prior to the Olympics to stop wasting their time............after all, we shouldn't take pride in the Olympics being in our province, and we should certainly not reap any benefits.
What a terrible, arrogant attitude.

contrary to your dumb post, Vancouver does have one of those. Go to English Bay, one of the most popular tourist areas of Vancouver and you will see one.
I personally think the symbol is not what Vancouver's all about and is given people from around the world a misconception of what we are. I would have prefereed something simple, but eye catching at the same time. THrow in a mountain or the Downtown Skyline or something that says Vancouver-Whistler.......this new thing is just garbage

Also, those C's make cowboy boots. Not sure if that was officially intended or something I created in my mind years ago.

I like both Calgary's and the Vancouver's Logo. They are simple and represent the country not just the town it is in.

I hate Vancouver's logo for one reason: That stupid smile. Remove that, and it is alright.

Okay so we have one for a tourist trap, it's an Inuit statue. If we want to do something like that go ask the Haida-Gwaii, or the Squamish nation. I am not saying I don't want the olympics but I really am sick of this "Canada's Olympics." Do you think that if this was in Toronto it would be called that? Hell no.
I liked what they were using for the bid-committee, that was very nice.
As for the funding, you have me there. I can't counter that, there is no way Vancouver can cover all that, but still. The IOC didn't choose Vancouver because of the country it's in.
