Default Heart Rate Monitors

Aerobic training season is coming up for me again, and I'm in the market for a heart rate monitor.

First off, I have a Polar T41 strap that's compatible with my exercise bike and treadmill. Are all heart rate watches compatible with this? Or will I need to buy one specific (Polar) to this strap?

I'm looking for a relatively inexpensive monitor that simply displays my heart rate and syncs with the chest strap. I'm also looking at one that displays speed as well as heart rate but is not a large step up in price.

Any suggestions? What kind of heart rate monitor do you use? What features does it have? How reliable is it?

So compact, it fits in a large backpack! This baby will moniter your heart like you've never seen. Plus the added weight will make for enhcances training.

I got the cheapest suunto at sport chek (100 bucks).

Comes with monitor on chest strap (which is compatible with most treadmills/equipment I've used), displays heart rate, and keeps track of stats for individual workouts (calories burned, average/peak heart rate).

I'm pretty happy with it, but one with a programmable beeping timer would be good for interval workouts.

I guess it didn't come up in the search because of heart rate vs heartrate.

Thanks!

Just an update, I ended up buying a Polar FS2C for $40 (on sale) from Sport Chek. Really, really happy with it, and it was super cheap!!
