Default US Passport Question

So we are planning on going to Hawaii in February 2012. I will be returning that month as well. My passport expires June 2012. I will be returning to Canada within four months of the expiry date. Am I okay? Do I need to renew my passport because it is expiring within six months of my return date? The link below from Passport Canada clearly states that I will be good, but is Hawaii the same as the other states? I would assume so but my wife wants me to be 100% sure. I tried googling it but found nothing.
Anyone that works in the airline industry know?

I researched for my wife as long as you have a return date before your passport expires you are fine. This was taking from gov website im to lazy to find link for you.

The individual states don't matter as you clear customs in calgary both ways. It is the same rules for every american destination.

Now if you didn't have a return ticket booked there could be issues

^^^ echoing fundmark19. I called US Customs & Immigration (or whatever they call themselves now) about it and the guy said your passport could expire the day after you go in, as long as it's valid when you go.

It's when you need a visa that it becomes an issue, and (most) Canadians don't need one (to visit).

Albert- what is your skin/eye colour? And do you have an accent?

My experience with US customs is they take a "guilty until proven innocent" approach; and if they have something to scrutinize they will. This coming from me being a white guy with blue eyes; I wouldn't want to take any additional risks. Add to the mix potential racism or profiling......

You'll be fine. There's no six month rule for Canadian visitors to the US. But renew it before you go anyway. It's easy, and you've got 8 months.

But, then you're just wasting time and money to renew earlier than you need to. If you do a 5 year renewal, you don't get 5 years added on to the validity, you get a passport that's valid for 5 years from the date you renew it.

It's bad enough that we're one of the few countries that only has a 5 year passport, there's no reason to turn it into a 4 year passport for no reason.

Plus, some time in 2012, the passports are going to be changing to include an RFID chip that will supposedly make them more secure, which, in theory should make getting into other countries easier. Also, the new passports will have a 10 year validity.

I was in the US for 2 weeks early on in April with a passport that expires in June. Never had any issues with it. They will not even question you on it. A passport that expires in 3 years or 3 days is valid as long as you are back before the expiry.

For the same price? Or will the price double as well?

I don't believe they've announced that yet.

I'm sure the price will go up some, but probably not double.
