Default Huffington Poster on strike!!! Ariana regains her neo-con form. "MaKe my day!"

The contributors/bloggers are unpaid at the Huffington post and have been since it began back in 2005. Ariana on the other hand has made a massive profit from her enterprise as well as receiving 315 million from AOL recently in being purchased. I now believe she is the head of AOL.

Anyways her peons have decided that they should have some remuneration for their efforts and have gone on strike!

Yet we are now going on strike. For now, at least, no more content from us will appear on the Huffington Post.
Robert Sheer defends her use of unpaid bloggers.

First off, and in defense of the use of unpaid bloggers, of which I happen to be one among the many who appear on a regular basis on theHuffington Post, we are not exploited.
Araina regains her Darth Vader self....

“The idea of going on strike when no one really notices,” Huffington said. “Go ahead, go on strike.”
Opinions? Boo Ariana! Go Ariana Go!

I personally think they are biting the hand that feeds them publicity. They have every right to strike, but man talk about dumb.

I'd hate to see the day volunteers don't have the right to strike. Isn't that called slavery?

Who said they don't have the right to strike?

The quote in the OP from the head of the Huffington post clearly says "go ahead, go on stike".

The HP has two options. With no content they'll have to pay their writers. Or just find other people who want to work for free.

The writers have three options. Stop whining and keep contributing for free. Or leave the job from which they are volunteering for. Keep "striking" in hopes that they'll get paid.

They have every right to strike and she has every right to tell them to piss off and hire new volunteers.

Why does the distinction even need to be made?

I wasn't aware that there was an unpaid blogger's union.

So she'll just advertise that she needs some new bloggers for one of the worlds biggest and most prominent news sites? Who's going to win this round of collective bargaining?

Seems a bit silly. From here, it sounds like the bloggers are just volunteers anyways...

So...they can:
1) Shut up and keep their names public without pay
2) Strike and hope the Ariana caves
3) Get jobs that pay you

I'm sure they'll have no problem getting contributers. I'm sure a regular entry on Huffington Post is good resume stuff for people still foolish enough to get into text journalism.

Places like the Huffington Post - or Calgarypuck in a microcosm - provide an outlet for those who are willing to generate content for free because they feel strongly they have something relevant to say, or as a salve to their ego, and that in turn works well for those who wish to put up the capital/venue and carry the risk to attract readers.

In Huffington's circumstance, she would be overrun with content providers if the current patch decided to pull up the plug.

A variation of that would be writers providing content are paid on a per viewer basis which, obviously, rewards the shrill and controversial.

Both are business models being copied throughout the internets and in both cases, profit flows very narrowly to those providing the capital and venue.

Well, chemgear, just because a job is unpaid doesn't mean you don't have to be hired.

Find any job that requires volunteers (Stampede, Grey Cup etc) and try and just show up and tell them that you "work" there. Not gonna happen.

Did you really believe that any jobs that are volunteer based any random can just show up and be hired?

Huffington Post sucks, I'm a bleeding heart and I never go there. Ariana Huffington has a very questionable past politically.

No idea to be honest, I am unfamiliar with the relationships that Huffington Post is made of - thus the question.

The real story is who the f@*k would pay $315m for the HP. Oh wait Ted Turner, that is like Rupert Murdoch buying the drudge report.

One helluva business woman. She go into the business not for political reasons. She is a capitalist through and through.
