Selling one of my all-time favorite cameras as the g/f got a SLR instead now.
Panasonic FZ-30 is a 8MP camera with a fixed lens but offers all manual settings and focus ring like you would get on an SLR without the need for carrying around a ton of gear. 12x Optical zoom with image stabilization - if you drop to 3MP you can get 19x zoom.
There is a chute for external flash on it, it will do video (not HD) and you can choose which aspect ratio you want to shoot photos in (16:9 or 4:3). This camera will also shoot in RAW if you so desire.
Everything works great on it, and am including a case I bought that the camera fits in as well.
