Default Lupe Fiasco - Words I Never Said

Quote:
Lupe Fiasco stirs up controversy with the preview for “Words I Never Said,” the second single from Lasers featuring Skylar Gray. With an ominous beat courtesy of Grammy nominee Alex Da Kid, the track booms in the background as lyrics including “I can’t take back the words I never said” and “It’s so loud inside my head with words that I should have said” scroll across billboards and tickers in New York City’s Times Square.

“It’s gonna be really big. It’s a big, controversial record,” Lupe previously said of the follow-up to “The Show Goes On.” The politically-charged song premieres February 1, followed by Lasers on March 8.
His new album will finally be released. March 8th is the scheduled date.

Sorry for the thread jack. However, first thing that came to mind at the thread title was George forgetting to tip her for un-tucking in the sheets in the hotel in LA.

For my being a dink I did click the link and press play. Not my cup of tea, but does sound familar somehow.

Sick song. Love Lupe Fiasco and him speaking his mind. One of the few true hip-hop/rap artists out there. Can't wait for March 8th and the release of LASERS.

“I can’t take back the words I never said” and “It’s so loud inside my head with words that I should have said”

Sounds very controversial

Great song. Here are the lyrics.

[Skylar Grey]
It’s so loud Inside my head
With words that I should have said!
As I drown in my regrets
I can’t take back the words I never said
I can’t take back the words I never said
[Lupe Fiasco]
I really think the war on terror is a bunch of bull####
Just a poor excuse for you to use up all your bullets
How much money does it take to really make a full clip
9/11 building 7 did they really pull it
Uhh, And a bunch of other cover ups
Your childs future was the first to go with budget cuts
If you think that hurts then, wait here comes the uppercut
The school was garbage in the first place, thats on the up and up
Keep you at the bottom but tease you with the uppercrust
You get it then they move you so you never keeping up enough
If you turn on TV all you see’s a bunch of “what the f-cks”
Dude is dating so and so blabbering bout such and such
And that aint Jersey Shore, homie thats the news
And these the same people that supposed to be telling us the truth
Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist
Gaza strip was getting bombed, Obama didn’t say ####
Thats why I aint vote for him, next one either
I’ma part of the problem, my problem is I’m peaceful
And I believe in the people.
[Skylar Grey]
It’s so loud inside my head
With words that I should have said!
As I drown in my regrets
I can’t take back the words I never said
I can’t take back the words I never said
[Lupe Fiasco - Verse 2]
Now you can say it aint our fault if we never heard it
But if we know better than we probably deserve it
Jihad is not a holy war, wheres that in the worship?
Murdering is not Islam!
And you are not observant
And you are not a muslim
Israel don’t take my side cause look how far you’ve pushed them
Walk with me into the ghetto, this where all the Kush went
Complain about the liquor store but what you drinking liquor for?
Complain about the gloom but when’d you pick a broom up?
Just listening to Pac aint gone make it stop
A rebel in your thoughts, aint gon make it halt
If you don’t become an actor you’ll never be a factor
Pills with million side effects
Take em when the pains felt
Wash them down with Diet soda!
Killin off your brain cells
Crooked banks around the World
Would gladly give a loan today
So if you ever miss payment
They can take your home away!
[Skylar Grey]
It’s so loud inside my head
With words that I should have said!
As I drown in my regrets
I can’t take back the words I never said, never said
I can’t take back the words I never said
[Lupe Fiasco - Verse 3]
I think that all the silence is worse than all the violence
Fear is such a weak emotion thats why I despise it
We scared of almost everything, afraid to even tell the truth
So scared of what you think of me, I’m scared of even telling you
Sometimes I’m like the only person I feel safe to tell it to
I’m locked inside a cell in me, I know that there’s a jail in you
Consider this your bailing out, so take a breath, inhale a few
My screams is finally getting free, my thoughts is finally yelling through
[Skylar Grey]
It’s so loud Inside my head
With words that I should have said!
As I drown in my regrets
I can’t take back the words I never said

Big Fan, I am waiting on his new album too. His first was amazing, "Daydreamin", "The Cool" was epic, and "Hip Hop Saved my Life" was equally as fantasic off his last (amongst others).

The guy does have unreal potential. Hope it is a consistant effort on his new one.

What exactly is Lupe, political activist, avant garde style geek, storyteller wordsmith? I hope we will see.

Yeah, Lupe is pretty solid. I expect a lot from this new album, I had high hopes for him after "Food and Liquor" but "The Cool" wasn't quite what I wanted. Now there has been a fairly big gap in releases, so hopefully there will be little filler in the new album. "American Terrorist" off the first album is one of my favorite songs of all time.

Wow, that is a brutal song. I'll admit I'm not the biggest hip hop fan and I mostly like the early 90s gangster stuff, so I'm not really an expert, but that is some of the worst rapping I've ever heard. I liked the part where he goes 'uh, and a bunch of other stuff'.

I also call BS on his claim he didnt vote for Obama because Gaza got bombed and he 'didn't say s***'. Obama looks pretty lame-duck right now, so its easy to pile on. Why did'nt Lupe say this when Gaza was being bombed? (according to wiki, this happened after Obama was elected, btw.)

In no way does this song deserve its own thread. And it sounds like Linkin Park, too.

FYP

I really enjoy Lupe but to think he is on a level of his own is just plain wrong, personally I would say Black Thought is the best emcee in hip hop today. No offence to Lupe, but everything he can do, Black Thought can do better. Off the top of my head I would also say Lyrics Born, Gift of Gab, Aesop Rock, Matisyahu, K-OS, Phonte, Mos Def, Deacon and Pressure are all equal to or better then Lupe.

I am really looking forward to the album though!

Disagree, but to each their own. I listen to, and am a fan of most of the artists you've listed as well (especially Black Thought & Mos Def), but would still stand by my opinion.

I liked that track, it's a good song. Chorus is really dope. Nothing is really that controversial/shocking or new lyrical wise though.

I've been bumping a lot of Ill Bill lately, and Bill does the society view/controversy themes a lot better, so that's probably why nothing jumped out at me lyrically.
