Ah, I can definitely see that. It's kinda at that transition point between the two states of overdone and sleepy. The issue I had read about, and glad it's been fixed, was the sewage smells and contaminated ocean. They built a new poop pipe to the deep deep. It's also super safe feeling.
As it is now, there are still plenty of small restaurants, street food etc, but it is busy. We found heading north on the beach was way better. If I were to go again, I'd aim to be north of the dividing river. Though we were south, which had the benefit of a 15 minute walk to Playa Los Muertos, which was also less busy, and good for variety.
