That is insane. I didn’t know this was a thing. Do all college players get paid or is it just because it’s McKenna?

It is part of the new NCAA NIL program that allows athletes to get paid. For years NCAA athletes had zero control over their brand/likeness and the Universities made some serious bank on it. This allowed them to share in those profits.

Student-athletes can be paid for their autograph, developing their own merchandise, promoting products or services, and event appearances due to their personal celebrity. Now, athletes are starting their own brands, endorsing brands, and becoming their own brands.

Canadian university has changed completely since the scholarship program was introduced. Almost every player now is ex CHL. I guess in that sense they are not developing players at a young age but the overall talent level is certainly higher than it was. Players are older, bigger, and stronger.

There is a lot of flaws with the scholarship program, specifically that is it a capped scholarship.

The CHL (Canadian Hockey League) scholarship program is capped. Each CHL league (WHL, OHL, and QMJHL) has its own specific scholarship structure, but all involve a limited number of scholarships and/or a limited duration for which the scholarship is available. For example, the QMJHL provides a maximum of six scholarships per semester, with each scholarship equivalent to half of the annual school fees plus $800, up to a maximum of $2500 per semester.

They haven’t figured out how to pay them yet though. Apparently they can’t just pay them, they have to make social media posts while in another country or things like that. Very bizarre. Heard Porter Martone is next.

I think they can pay them with a cut of Jersey sales, Billboards and social media posts. But as Canadians maybe the rules are different.
Some of NCAA Football NIL deals are worth millions.

For these NIL deals, it's not the university making the payments but independent, third-party "collectives" (usually made up of that university's fans and boosters) that pay the athlete. So the amount of money is limited only by the wealth of the fan base and the performance (and marketing) value of that player and sport.

Pegulas have $$$ but refuse to spend it on their NHL team but seem to on Penn State,
Mckenna was telling kids at edge a few weeks ago he was going Michigan State, guess they sweetened the pot.
Dupont next in 6 months somewhere?
Curious how these schools are treating academics, because a bunch of these kids have pretty much ignored it for a while, they just do astronomy and phys ed?

Communications is a popular choice of degrees for a lot of NCAA football and basketball recruits.
