Great guitarist and I loved him when I was growing up as a member of the KISS Army, but a completely self destructive personality.

New York Groove was still a great song.

Ace Frehley was always my favourite member of Kiss.

KISS definitely lost a lot of their swagger when Ace left.

This interview shows the battle lines in the band - you can practically see the smoke coming out of Gene's ears whenever Ace laughs:

He had the best solo album of the group. His cover of New York Groove is as iconic as a lot of the top hits in the Kiss library.

From a few days ago, Sam Rivers bassist for Limp Bizkit passed away at age 48.
Enjoyed their early stuff as a younger man and nostalga as I've gotten older.

Good. He was a horrible misogynist and racist.

https://slate.com/technology/2014/12...nd-sexism.html

Quote:
he told the Sunday Times that he was “inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa” because “all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours—whereas all the testing says not really.” He further said that while we may wish intelligence to be equal across races, “people who have to deal with black employees find this not true.”
Quote:
In 2000, Watson told an audience at Berkeley that there was a link between sunlight exposure and libido, and therefore “That’s why you have Latin lovers.” In the same speech, reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, he said that thin people are ambitious. “Whenever you interview fat people,” Watson said, “you feel bad, because you know you’re not going to hire them.”
Of course, his cardinal sin was not giving credit to Rosalind Franklin for her research that actually unlocked the structure of DNA as a double helix. They stole her ideas and didn't credit her for the discovery, something considered to be the most unethical thing you could do in science. He did it because he was a ####ing awful misogynist. Even years later when he wrote a memoir, he had the chance to correct the wrong he did, and he chose not to, instead referring to her as some other scientist's assistant, after commenting a lot on her looks. You just have to look at his quotes about women over the years to see that.

Quote:
At a science conference in 2012, for instance, he said of women in science, “I think having all these women around makes it more fun for the men but they’re probably less effective.”
There's a bunch of other utterly stupid quotes from him over the years. He was not a good person, and thought he was much smarter than he really was.

#### James Watson.

Thought Cali might like this. This writer pre-wrote this obit because she wanted it just right.

STAT senior science writer Sharon Begley wrote this remembrance of James Watson before she herself died in 2021.

Imagine discovering the building blocks of human beings and still being racist.
