Yikes. Rory will have nightmares for a while.
Interesting to see how many people were actually cheering and not cheering when Bryson putted that in.

Rory is going to have some nightmares on those two short putts. I still can’t believe he missed them. Not a fan of Bryson but wow did he earn this win.

Guessing Rory fans are longing for the stretch where he was completely out of the major by Friday afternoon and would just backdoor the top 10. These choke jobs are getting progressively more painful.

Missed putt on 18 was understandable. 16 was just a disaster.

Mother of all meltdowns.
Rory McIlroy was 496-for-496 putting inside 3 feet this season before that miss at the 16th

Glad Bryson won it. Don't care about the LIV vrs PGA thing just like golfers who aren't like watching paint dry. Guy has a lot of personality and he is good for golf.

Haven't watched yet as I was working today. Caught some of Bryson's presser on the drive home.
He said he regretted swapping his driver head today. Said the older one was getting a bit flat and wishes he hit more than 5 balls before making the decision.
That seems insane if the old one wasn't broken, particularly for a gear head like him.

Watching Bryson come on the Golf Channel set tonight. Either he is a hell of an actor or else he is a genuinely cool dude and very likeable. It is such a shame that he only plays in front of crowds four times a year.

I think he's like a dorky guy trying to be cool & popular. Comes off awkward at times and that makes it seem a bit acty, but I don't think it's fake.
Maybe slightly forced but still genuinely a decent guy.

He's got some pretty solid YouTube content too. Of all the guys, he seems the most at peace with the liv move. He was always about more than just playing tour golf anyway, and enjoys being able to do the YouTube thing, long drive comps and whatever else he's into.
We were in the grandstands at 18 today at the end, and it was such a fun finish. I was hoping for Rory, but my kid was hoping for both. The crowd seemed about 50/50. There was a pretty loud roar when they put Bryson's bogey at 15 on the scoreboard, and got very loud with Rory walking up. Crowd was loudest for Bryson's bunker shot, which was really incredible.
I love that course for US Opens.

Yeah I was pulling for Rory. Good thing he won those majors when he was young because it sure seems he is just too much in his head at this point. He missed a 2 foot 6 inch and a 3 foot 9 inch putt.
Although Chamblee made a good point. Rory was 69th in shots gained on approach shots. His iron shots are his Achilles heel. That cost him big time at the Open a couple of years ago.

Ooof. Brooke just shanked one 7 miles into the bush at Sahalee. Going to be lucky to escape with a double. It's dark in there...

Cameron Young shoots 59 today, while hitting 6 of 14 fairways. Granted that is an easy course, but maybe hitting fairways should start to be rewarded. Bryson wins the US Open hitting only 5 fairways in his final round.

It turned out the natural areas at pinehurst weren’t really that awful. Yeah you could end up with a bad luck spot, but seemed like 75 percent of the shots just ended up in an open area. Put solid 8 inch rough there and that changes things.

Honestly...between technology and the guys getting serious about swing strength and fitness overall, the traditional courses have no chance of proving a big challenge.
Length is everything now. Punishment doesn't really exist when you can hit by/through what used to be the danger areas.
Not sure how it changes either unless every tourney sets up like an Open would....which just isn't realistic. Particularly in Florida and a host of other states.
IMO its really unfortunate too because for decades and decades, that was what separated the great from the good. Those days are long gone.

If you narrow the landing areas and have penalty areas instead of rough, then I guess you force guys to find the fairway. Basically have courses designed just for the pros and those for everybody else.
The scores at Pinehurst weren’t that low because of the crowned greens. It certainly didn’t test their ability to find the fairway.

Indeed, the greens were the only thing that kept that course from playing at -20 for the tournament or so. Some days I just don’t know what to think. These guys are amazing athletes but they are overpowering golf courses and maybe that’s just the way it is now. The flip side is the tour could dial things back with the ball and clubs and make courses play longer , but there seems no real desire to do that.
