I am steadily moving from totally uncaring about this work to totally enraged that they are wiping their ass with the foundational piece of fantasy literature for our times.


Also, way too much backhanded slander of ROTK in this thread when it was a great movie. Totally faithful reproduction? No absolutely not, but I don't know how anyone can watch that movie and not come away moved and having enjoyed.

There is a large segment of the population who have hated every single aspect of this show, from the opening title sequence to the colour of the grass. And they spread their message loud and far on social media, YouTube, and hopefully a close, trusted friend or psychologist.

That's pretty much Fandom in general these days, it's gotten pretty cynical.

RoP was a little slow paced and dry, but wonderful visuals. I will probably watch S2, but I'm not really waiting for it anxiously.

It'll be something to throw on to quench the thirst for some fantasy when it bubbles up.

But not the "event" a billion dollar show probably should be.

As for cynical fandom

That's probably because the wrong people who don't understand these franchises keep getting put in positions to make and direct these huge productions

Then they treat it like a cash cow rather than a passion project and dismiss the concerns of loyal fans as overblown or just haters.

Obviously I'm in part referring to the massacre of Star Wars.

Hopefully we dont tread down the same path here
