It has helped a bit in quite a few instances. The way I've always viewed waivers is that if the waived guy is better than my worst AHL prospect then I will throw a claim. In this case, Gibbons was better than Bud Holloway who has been bought out. To me it's like the Jackman/MacDermid trades, you haven't really lost anything but you did make your situation slightly better.
