If not the TSA, I wonder if you could potentially file with the airline and/or your travel insurance/credit card to replace the lost items.

EDIT: On a future note, I started using small carabiner clips or S clips to keep zippers closed when I travel. I started mainly on my backpack where the zipper sometimes opened on its own due to the flexing of the back pack, but I started doing this when the airports stopped allowing the locking of luggage.
