It was announced at a staff meeting a little while ago and the staff was given notice.
I could see it potentially being a marketing ploy but than again, it's a busy place and has been in business for 40 years. It would strike me as odd to renew a lease and than pull a stunt by letting existing business know your closing and than HOPING they get the good news message?
Only other than I can think about is a sale might be in the works or a completely new concept coming in under the same ownership.

This just tells me that only a close, inner circle of staff knows they’ll still be open. Or they trained the FOH, including that girl, to tell customers they are closing to ensure solid reservations
